De Grote Sfinx van Gizeh is een van de meest iconische monumenten in Egypte en de wereld. Het is een kalkstenen standbeeld met het lichaam van een leeuw en het hoofd van een man, waarvan wordt aangenomen dat het farao Khafre (bouwer van de tweede piramide in Gizeh) voorstelt. De Sfinx is ongeveer 73 meter lang en 20 meter hoog, waarmee het het grootste monolithische beeld uit de antieke wereld is. Het is direct naar het oosten gericht, naar de opkomende zon, en werd gezien als een krachtige bewaker van het Gizeh Plateau. Het standbeeld is meer dan 4.500 jaar oud (daterend uit ongeveer 2500 v.Chr.). De ontbrekende neus en baard zijn beroemde mysteries – de meeste historici geloven dat ze in latere perioden werden vernietigd.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing experience visiting the pyramids, and our guide made the tour truly unforgettable. My 11-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed the tour as well and found the stories and history fascinating. Had the best time exploring around the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Our guide was very accommodating and we were given a lot of time to explore every area. Our guide Mostafa, was very friendly and well versed in the history aspect. Additionally, he took us to see how papyrus is made and to a natural essence shop which was on the way to the museum.
