Het Casa Natal of de geboorteplaats van de wereldberoemde kunstenaar Pablo Ruiz Picasso is sinds 1983 een officiële erfgoedsite. Het ligt in het hart van het historische centrum van Malaga, omringd door monumenten uit het rijke verleden van Malaga, zoals het Romeinse theater, het kasteel van Gibralfaro met zijn adembenemende uitzicht over de stad, evenals de Alcazaba. Deze locatie is officieel opnieuw geopend door de koning en koningin van Spanje en het is een belangrijk onderzoekscentrum over het leven van deze briljante kunstenaar.

In 1881 werd Pablo Picasso, de belangrijkste kunstenaar van de 20e eeuw, geboren op Plaza de la Merced nr. 15. In 1983 uitgeroepen tot artistiek-historisch monument van nationaal belang. De geboorteplaats en het museum beslaan nu het hele gebouw. Sinds 2005 is er ook nog een tentoonstellingsruimte op nr. 13 van hetzelfde plein. Tijdens zijn bestaan heeft het Geboorteplaatsmuseum van Picasso een verzameling kunstwerken samengesteld met meer dan vierduizend stukken van meer dan 200 verschillende kunstenaars. Daartoe behoren Picasso’s schetsboeken ter voorbereiding op ‘Las señoritas de Aviñón’, de enige schetsboeken van deze soort die zich in een Spaanse collectie bevinden, daterend uit 1907. De tentoonstellingsruimtes bevatten verschillende originele voorwerpen, familiesouvenirs en stukken gemaakt door de kunstenaar die de familie-, sociale en culturele banden van Pablo Picasso met Málaga documenteren. De geboorteplaats van Pablo Ruiz Picasso herbergt ook een gespecialiseerde bibliotheek en biedt een doorlopend programma van tijdelijke tentoonstellingen en culturele activiteiten.

"Visiting the Picasso Birthplace Museum was exciting: entering the house where Picasso was born allows for a better understanding of his origins and his connection to Málaga." The museum is well organized, rich in works, photographs, and personal items that tell the artist's life in an engaging way. Suggestive atmosphere, kind staff, and a perfect location in the heart of the city. Highly recommended for art and culture lovers!
Very convenient location/ Must for Picasso fans/ reasonable price/ allow about two hours. Lots of nearby places to eat
Picasso spent only the first 10 years of his life here, so the house is of little significance both for its furnishings and for his life lived. Inside there is only a sitting area and a desk, while everything else is described on fixed panels or on-screen photos. Visit not fundamental.
Not a very impressive collection of Picasso’s work and almost entirely sketches/etchings. Very bland.
Picasso's birthplace is NOT impressive. We have seen the house in 20 minutes, with the addition that we are not art lovers, so it was also not really spent on us. The museum is spacious and there are some personal items. Furthermore, it is mainly about his family and the development of Picasso as an artist. The museum itself is nicely set up and all the texts are also in English, but we didn't think it was that special.
Educational and wonderful to have that experience too. It was very interesting to learn about Picasso's history. To see a collection of Picasso's first had early drawings.
In the downtown of Malaga and near of the cathedral we had the opportunity to visited the childhood and Picasso’s parents house. This historic building was buy for the county to celebrated the centennial of Picasso’s anniversary.
DO NOT BUY THIS - YOU STILL HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE AND CAN BUY THE TICKETS AT THE FRONT DESK. We bought the tickets in advance so that we don‘t have to wait since the the description explicitly states „Skip the line“. We arrived there and were told by the staff that we have to wait in line like everyone else. So we had to wait in line for 45 minutes in the rain…. We were totally disappointed by the false claims made in the description.
Great tour to learn about Picasso and how he influenced others and continues to do so. Not crowded and the administrators were very helpful in pointing out the significance of the displays.
It’s nice to see the childhood home of Pablo Picasso! And the influences he had to be the great artist that he is!
