In het hart van Zuid-Amerika, slechts twee uur ten noorden van Quito, ligt de raadselachtige stad Otavalo. Het is niet zomaar een stad; het is een pulserend epicentrum van cultuur, kunst en natuur. Otavalo staat wijd en zijd bekend als gastheer van de meest uitgebreide Indiase handwerkmarkt van het continent en is meer dan alleen een marktplaats. Het is een tapijt van levendige kleuren, ingewikkeld houtwerk en meesterlijk weven. Naast de drukke kraampjes en het gezoem van de ruilhandel ligt de ziel van Otavalo in de adembenemende achtergrond. Majestueuze bergtoppen, serene meren en ongerepte natuurreservaten omringen deze stad, terwijl het gefluister van oude Indiase dorpen in de wind danst. Otavalo is niet alleen een bestemming; het is een ervaring, een reis naar het hart van een land dat de tijd vergat.

San Pablo del Lago is een prachtig meer. De omliggende bergen en vulkaan zorgen voor een adembenemend landschap. De omgeving is gevuld met een aantal fantastische lodges, hotels en haciënda's. Behalve dat het een ongelooflijk ontspannende plek is om naartoe te gaan, zijn er veel recreatieve activiteiten die in de omgeving kunnen worden genoten.
Plaza de los Ponchos, ook wel bekend als de Centennial Market, is het decor voor de grootste ambachtelijke beurs in het noorden van Ecuador. Gelegen in de provincie Imbabura in de stad Otavalo. De activiteit van de Plaza de Ponchos Ecuador is bedoeld om handwerk op de markt te brengen, zowel lokaal, regionaal, nationaal als zelfs internationaal. Het textiel van Otavalo is de vlag van ambachtelijke productie, maar biedt ook andere soorten producten gemaakt van hout, kunstwerken met keramiek, hout, verf, metaal enz.
Cotacachi is een klein ambachtelijk stadje. Gelegen in de provincie Imbabura, Ecuador. Cotacachi heeft geweldige warmwaterbronnen, weelderige bossen, natuurreservaten en besneeuwde toppen. De belangrijkste productie van Cotacachi is lederwaren. In het centrum van de stad zijn tientallen winkels met kwalitatief goede leerproducten zoals jassen, broeken, riemen, portemonnees, schoenen, tassen en meer.
Het beroemde meer van Cuicocha ligt in een 3 km brede caldera die het gevolg was van een enorme explosie die ongeveer 3.100 jaar geleden plaatsvond. De vulkaan is sindsdien inactief, maar de vulkanische as die als gevolg van die oude uitbarsting verstrooide, veranderde het gebied in een gebied dat bekend staat om zijn voedselrijke bodems.

Felipe was an exceptional guide. We hired Carpediem for two days for private tours and he went above and beyond in working with our special requests.

I had a fun day with Lincoln. It ended up just being the 2 of us. We had many laughs. I recommend bringing luggage with lots of room. There are lots of lovely things to but at Otovalo. Also the town of leather goods which is where we had a delicious lunch. The people at Otovalo were a bit pushy for me & it was difficult to just shop as they were doing the hard sell. I’m not a fan of that or crowds so not my thing ver went for a walk along a beautiful lake & Lincoln described many of the plants. Traffic back to Aquino was horrible.

As one of South America's largest indigenous markets, many vendors actively invite visitors to their stalls, and while some travelers enjoy the lively atmosphere, we appreciate that it isn't everyone's preferred shopping style. Unfortunately, traffic on the return journey to Quito can occasionally be heavy, especially in the late afternoon, but we're glad it didn't take away from what sounds like a memorable day overall. Fun day exploring the countryside. In addition to visiting the Otovalo market, we stopped for bizcochos, had a lovely lunch & wandered around Parque Nacional Cotacachi.

Felipe was an excellent guide, he was very friendly and helpful. He went the extra distance to make sure that we had a great time. He was very patient. I was just going to take a public bus from Quito to Otavalo but I would have missed so much. This tour is much more than I expected. I am very glad that I took this tour and would highly recommend it

My guide was Felipe and I'd booked this tour due to multiple good reviews especially on Felipe. Felipe was very attentive to my needs and gave me room to do what I want by providing me options and not rushing me. I casually said I wanted to see indigenous family with guinea pigs and he immediately arranged it for me! It was a great surprise as it's the last day for me in Quito and to witness a family full of guinea pigs was one of my bucket list in my one month of latin america expedition. Felipe's swift response made my day and gave me a deep memory in my trip and for sure will highly recommend anyone to take on this experience!
