Deze tot nadenken stemmende, unieke en boeiende tour, "Never Again", is gemaakt om bezoekers te helpen de realiteit en nachtmerries van een van de donkerste periodes uit de moderne geschiedenis te ontrafelen. Het is tijd voor een reis van bewustzijn, een streven naar herinnering en verandering. Er wordt niet genoeg gepraat over wat er is gebeurd, we moeten ervoor zorgen dat het niet nog een keer gebeurt. We zullen praten over de slachtoffers van dit concentratiekamp en de Holocaust in het algemeen, en parallellen trekken met actuele gebeurtenissen. Het gesprek is bedoeld om ons allemaal uit te dagen. Dingen om op te merken: De rondleiding is bedoeld voor personen van 13 jaar of ouder. Elke gids wordt geïdentificeerd met een kleine gele vlag en onze naam! Bij deze tour wordt veel gewandeld.

Onze wandeling vanaf het treinstation leidt ons naar het bezoekerscentrum, waar gedetailleerde modellen van het kamp de fysieke structuren verduidelijken die zijn ontworpen voor controle en het bestendigen van superioriteit over gevangenen. Ontdek de verontrustende transformatie van het voormalige SS-trainingskamp tot de huidige politieacademie van Brandenburg, een grimmige herinnering aan de duistere geschiedenis van de plek. Ga op een autonome verkenning van de barakken van de gevangenen en de kampkeuken, waar neonazi's die de Holocaust ontkennen aanvallen hebben gelanceerd. Ontdek verbindingen met het heden, inclusief de opkomst van de AfD, een Duitse extreemrechtse groep. Ten slotte onthult de ziekenboeg de diepten van racisme, controle over vrouwenlichamen, eugenetica en de verontrustende waarheid van gevangenen die als laboratoriumratten worden behandeld voor de carrièreontwikkeling van nazi-artsen. Deze diepgaande reis daagt ons uit om het verleden onder ogen te zien, het heden te begrijpen en te streven naar een toekomst die de wreedheden van de geschiedenis verwerpt.

Our guide was super competent and we had such an informative visit. So yes you have to walk and you will soon understand that it does not matter..A big thank you. Let us remain vigilant and far-sighted so that this type of behaviour NEVER happens again.

There are no words to describe what happened there but there are some for this visit: very friendly guide, understandable explanations with language appropriate to the situation. We were able to ask all the questions we had because there were only 8. I recommend Siobhan as a guide!

We toured in February and despite the cold and atmosphere of the camp, our guide managed to keep the tone to explain clearly what was at stake in this camp. I really enjoyed the experience but I wish I "never" needed to make such a visit again. The team was very attentive to our needs.

I was on the fence about visiting Sachsenhausen but in the end I was really glad that I made the trip and used with this outfit. To be clear, this is not a dense, academic, scripted tour but still one that thoroughly explains Sachsenhausen's uniquely grim history as, first, the Nazi's "model" concentration camp, later a Soviet "special" camp and finally a pro-communist, anti-fascist propaganda tool. What I liked about and believe differentiates this tour, is that our guide Siobhán's knowledgable commentary was filtered through a progressive, feminist lens, connecting the past with the present. (It is not heavy handed, but if this is not your political slant, this might not be the tour for you.) Siobhán was very sensitive to the extraordinary brutality, suffering, and loss of life that took place at Sachsenhausen as well as the feelings of those who visit the site, and she imparted this deference to the group. That said, while she rightfully set a respectful tone, she also managed to insert an appropriate level of levity (if that is the right word?) at certain points, so that while the tour was certainly very sad and at times absolutely sickening, I left feeling educated-- better, not broken. I will also add that a few participants (including me) had travel snags, and the outfitter was very helpful, patient and communicative. All in all, it was a very positive experience that I would recommend to friends.
