Het verkennen van de Nizwa Souq is een van de beste dingen om te doen in Oman. Het is een van de oudste markten van het land en je vindt er fruit, vlees, snoep, aardewerk, souvenirs en antiek... Er valt veel te ontdekken als je tussen de locals door wandelt. Hieronder vindt u mijn gids om u te helpen bij het plannen van uw bezoek.
Het fort in Nizwa dateert uit de 17e eeuw, tijdens de Al Ya'rubi-dynastie, en werd gebouwd op de top van de ruïnes van een 9e-eeuws kasteel. De massieve structuur is mooi gerestaureerd, met veel kamers die er zo uitzagen als toen het fort in gebruik was; je zult in veel kamers interessante historische weetjes zien die worden aangeboden in verschillende displays. Zorg ervoor dat je de gevangenenkamer bezoekt en lees over het gebruik in oorlogstijd van de lokale dadels, die werden omgezet in een dodelijk wapen in de vorm van een ketel met kokende dadelsiroop. Het uitzicht vanaf de centrale toren is spectaculair en de klim waard.
Dit eigenzinnige museum is meer een open huis dan een historische tentoonstelling. Drie dames begeleiden de gasten rond hun traditionele huis in het oude en vervallen dorp Al Hamra. Ze demonstreren de culinaire kunsten van de productie van jeneverbessenolie, het maken van Omani brood en het malen van koffiebonen, en er is gelegenheid voor een fotoshoot in traditionele regionale klederdracht. Met gekruiste benen zitten in de majlis (receptieruimte), omringd door foto's van lokale sjeiks, koffie en dadels proeven, en gebarentaal uitwisselen met de dames is een ervaring die je niet mag missen.

We had a really good day from start to finish. Communication beforehand was good and the tour was well organised from start to finish. The van was new, comfortable and we appreciated the cold water available throughout the day. We liked that the tour covered important historical sites in Oman. Our guide, Mohammed Aldighaishi, made for a memorable day. He was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. We really enjoyed the day and his efforts. Thank you

Mohamed A. was our tour guide for the Friday Nizwa program. We haven’t met such a well-prepared guide in a long time. He shared a great deal of information with us and talked extensively about the country and the sights throughout the entire tour. Very long road but worth it. The visit to Nizwa Castle is beautiful. The souk too but the relatively high rates (mutrah's is cheaper). After a meal on the road towards Jebel Shams, the great canyon of Arabia... beautiful.. and this tour in oetit group by car this is great. Thanks to Ahmed the super guide

I had the most amazing tour today with Muhammed Aldighaishi. There were just 3 of us on the tour, and his enthusiasm shon through from the moment he picked us up. He gave us full information on what the itinerary was. Our first stop was Nizwa Souq, seeing and tasting the different dates, and smelling Francansence. Nizwa Fort showing all the different rooms and views. Lunch in Nizwa was delicious, followed by Jabreen Castle and finally Bahla Fort A truelly memorable day
(We actually went on The Nizwa Fort + Grand Canyon Trip as the original trip did not meet the number of participants) This experience was very good and intuitive, our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving us plenty of time to explore (Thank you Mr. Abdul Hamid), we had our itinerary texted to us with what was required and what to expect, which was very useful. The experience itself was amazing, the grand canyon was a marvelous scene, and the main food and drinks were covered by our wonderful guide. Please be aware that although it is stated that the trip is around 10 hours, it is most likely going to last longer than this, the trip from muscat to the fort and then Nizwa is close to 4/5 hours itself, two ways means that it would be around 9/10 hours. Due to extra traffic on the way back meant it was a total of 13 hours to return to our hotel. Also be prepared for a bumpy ride and comfortable of high heights (for the canyon) Regardless of this, it was still worth the experience fully. With a public setting you are likely to meet other outgoing people. In addition - the team very helpful contacting via WhatsApp the night before with all the information needed and as mentioned our plans were changed, although there is a price difference I was not charged extra for the change.
