Ga mee met deze ochtend sightseeing tour naar Meteora en ervaar dit ware wonder volledig onder begeleiding van een deskundige lokale gids. De tour begint met een handige pick-up (met onze VIP minibus) van uw hotel in Kalabaka of Kastraki. Tijdens deze rondleiding krijgt u de kans om alle zes de prachtige kloosters te zien en het interieur van drie van hen te bewonderen. Bekijk daarnaast enkele van Meteora’s meest spectaculaire verborgen juweeltjes zoals de oude Kapel van Doupiani en de prachtige St. George “Mandilas” grot. Je ontdekt ook de “andere kant” van Meteora, zoals de waarheid over waarom de kluizenaars zich duizend jaar geleden in deze imposante grotten vestigden en hoe de monniken het “onmogelijke” bereikten. Aan de voet van de Heilige Meteora-rotsen en niet ver van Kalambaka ligt Kastraki (vertaald als klein kasteel in het Grieks). Dit pittoreske dorp dankt zijn naam aan een klein Byzantijns kasteel, waarvan de ruïnes nog steeds bewaard zijn gebleven.
Het klooster van Sint Nicolaas van Anapafsas hangt letterlijk in de lucht op een kleine rots en is het eerste klooster dat we tegenkomen op weg van het dorp Kastraki naar het stenen bos van Heilige Meteora.
Het Roussanou-klooster, ook wel bekend als Arsani, staat bovenop een indrukwekkende verticale en steile klif van Meteora, tussen de kloosters van Sint Nicolaas Anapafsas en Varlaam.
Het klooster van de Grote Meteoron of Transfiguratie van Christus drukt de grootsheid en geschiedenis van de Heilige Meteora uit, aangezien het het oudste en belangrijkste klooster is.
Het Varlaam-klooster of klooster van alle heiligen bevindt zich op een imposante rots precies tegenover de Grote Meteoron en is het op een na grootste klooster van Meteora.
Het klooster van de Heilige Drie-eenheid is het op twee na oudste klooster in Meteora en is het moeilijkst te bereiken, aangezien bezoekers een bergafwaarts pad moeten oversteken en dan 145 treden moeten beklimmen die in de rots zijn uitgehouwen. Er wordt gezegd dat de eerste kluizenaars een touwladder en een net gebruikten om het te bouwen en dat ze er 70 jaar over deden om alle benodigde materialen te dragen.
Het klooster van Sint-Stefanus (Agios Stefanos) ligt net boven de stad Kalambaka en is het meest toegankelijke klooster in Meteora, aangezien er geen trappen zijn om de ingang te bereiken en de toegang gemakkelijk is via een kleine stenen brug.

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
Wij bieden handige pick-up van uw hotel in Kalabaka of Kastraki. Als de naam van uw hotel niet in de lijst staat, neem dan direct contact met ons op na uw boeking. De ophaaltijd van Kalambaka is tussen 08:45 en 09:00 uur, terwijl van Kastraki tussen 09:00 en 09:15 uur.

- De kloosters van Meteora leggen een dresscode op voor bezoekers. Mannen zijn verplicht om lange broeken en shirts met mouwen te dragen. Vrouwen moeten rokken dragen die tot onder de knie vallen (broeken zijn niet toegestaan) en hun schouders bedekken. Als alternatief kunnen vrouwen een lange sjaal gebruiken die om de taille wordt gewikkeld om aan de dresscodevereisten te voldoen.

This is a great tour. The guide is very informative and provided information during all the time we were on the bus between locations. The monasteries are beautiful. They generally provide enough time to visit them, however we wished we could have had about 10 more minutes at Valaam since it is very beautiful on the outside. This tour is very much worth the money to avoid the stress of parking and get a lot of information about the history and area. Since we were not staying in the main towns we did have to meet them at the old train station, but that was fine as there is plenty of parking there.

Fabulous experience. Our guide was polite, funny, informative and easy to understand (we are Americans). The trip was just the right length of time. They picked us up on time and even offered to drop us off anywhere on the way back, or at our hotel. I wish I remembered our guide and driver’s names. They were great! The visit is simply extraordinary, the monasteries are magnificent, walking through the weather is something wonderful. On the other hand, the provider Meteora Trip was very disappointing, I had booked a small group, we were 36 people, they were supposed to pick me up at my hotel, and they canceled the day before to give me a meeting point that was the train station. I was really disappointed because I had made arrangements with my hotel to leave my vehicle and my luggage on-site. And the guide was really unpleasant from the start when I asked him why the group was so large when I had paid more to have a small group.

The pickup was not cancelled, the meeting point was changed because the accommodation provided was not a hotel and could not be safely accessed by a bus. Regarding the group size, there were not 36 guests on board. During some extremely hot summer days, we choose to operate with slightly larger buses because they provide better and more efficient air conditioning, while still keeping the group at a comfortable small size. Finally, we do not have different prices for small or large groups. We appreciate your feedback and hope this helps clarify the arrangements.

Meteora is a fabulous place to visit, with tremendous cultural and geographical wonders. On our tour, we visited 3 monasteries. Our guide and driver were very helpful. A word of caution for travelers with physical challenges such as bad knees or hips--you have to climbs a LOT of stairs and walk some distance up hills to visit some of the monasteries. Plan your visit accordingly!
