Oorspronkelijk opgericht door Sultan Abou el Hassan in de 14e eeuw, onderging het in de jaren 1560 een wederopbouw door de Saadians en bood het onderdak aan ongeveer 800 studenten die de Koran uit het hoofd leerden. De Medersa wordt beschouwd als een van de mooiste gebouwen van Marrakesh en Marokko en vertoont typische Marokkaanse architectonische elementen, zoals gedetailleerde zellij-tegels, sierlijk stucwerk en ingewikkeld gesneden cederhout.
Daarna waag je je in de Geheime Tuin, een verborgen oase van paleizen te midden van de bruisende medina, waar islamitische kunst en architectuur te zien zijn. The desert excursion is good, but you have to consider the large number of hours spent on the mic. In our case, although they said it was with a guide, there was only the driver who spoke very little and above in French. Visit booked via app. Reservation confirmed by email and on the app. We waited 45min. No guide appeared - no message from Tripadvisor or Aviator. I left a message the same day on app with refund request. Tripadvisor apparently never received my reservation. Refund request accepted. I am still waiting...

Feb 2026 Get tickets in advance to avoid queue. It will be busy whenever you go. There are toilets inside the complex. Much architecture to be admired, better to read up before you go as it is so busy during the day that you need to know what you are looking at.
