Een van onze favoriete tours, deze is gewijd aan degenen die in naam van de vrijheid zijn gevallen. Deze speciale tour is ontworpen voor diegenen die geïnteresseerd zijn in oude Griekse veldslagen, diegenen die twee grote slagvelden van de Perzische oorlogen willen ontdekken, het vliegtuig van Marathon en Thermopylae.

Een van onze favoriete tours, deze is opgedragen aan degenen die vielen in de naam van vrijheid. Deze speciale tour is ontworpen voor diegenen die geïnteresseerd zijn in oude Griekse veldslagen, diegenen die twee grote slagvelden van de Perzische oorlogen willen ontdekken, het vliegtuig van Marathon en Thermopylyae. Op weg van Athene naar de heilige vlakte van Marathon rijdend door Attica Highway en Marathon Avenue. Dit is het parcours van de originele Marathon Race, zoals je zult zien aan de borden die elke kilometer tellen. Later zullen we de Tumulus van de Atheners bereiken; de site toont moed, moed en tenslotte de overwinning van de Atheners op de Perzen in 490 BCE.
Verder zien we ook het Marathon Battlefield, het Archeologisch Museum en een prehistorische begraafplaats die het bewijs levert van de eerste beschaafde aanwezigheid op deze locatie.
Rijdend door de huidige stad Marathon, onze laatste stop in dit gebied, zijn we Marathon Lake, op de hellingen van Mt Penteli. Het is een kunstmatig meer dat in het verleden fungeerde als het belangrijkste waterreservoir voor Athene en de dam, een geweldige mechanische constructie uit het begin van de 20e eeuw.
Vervolgens zijn we weer aan boord voor een rit naar Thermopylae. Het was hier dat 10 jaar na de Slag om de Marathon Koning Leonidas en zijn 300 dappere Spartanen heldhaftig tegenover het Perzische leger stonden. In het historische centrum wordt een plezierige 3D-film getoond.
Alsof je door de tijd reist, voel je de aanwezigheid van helden die hun grond verdedigden voor hun vrijheid tegen een buitenlandse veroveraar. Tot slot bezoekt u het standbeeld van Leonidas dat precies tegenover Kolonos Hill staat, waar de hardnekkige Spartanen hun laatste adem uitbleven.

Loop rond het slagveld van Thermopolae.
Op weg naar Athene stoppen we bij de kustplaats Kammena Vourla, waar we genieten van een ontspannen, traditionele Griekse lunch aan zee. En om de tour te beëindigen rijden we veilig en gezond terug naar Athene.

I highly recommend this trip. It was absolutely worth the price. Our guide, Giannis, was very friendly and very knowledgeable about both the military and cultural history of Greece. I consider myself fairly well-read on Greek history, but I still learned new things. We went on three different private tours with three different tour companies during our trip, and while this was the most expensive one, it was hands down the best. I'll never forget seeing Marathon from up high and resting my legs in the same hot springs the Spartans once used. If you're a history buff this tour is definitely worth it.

Andreas Was a very good driver and showed a lot of energy in sharing the rich cultural history of ancient Greece. A local Athenian, he drove impeccably throughout a very congested city. He went out of his way to make sure we saw everything that could be seen in both the marathon and Thermopholie areas. He treated us like family and we’d be happy to go on another tour with him again.

We did 2 day tours ( Marathon, Thermopylae and Olimpia tour) and one 2 day tour (Sparta, Mystras- Monovasia) with the company. All the tours were perfectly organised, professional and interesting.
