Deze tour is een geweldige ervaring voor diegenen die de plek willen zien waar de 192 Atheners stierven terwijl ze vochten tegen de Perzen voor de vrijheid van Griekenland en waar de Authentis Marathon Race werd geboren.

Een van onze favoriete tours, deze is gewijd aan degenen die in naam van de vrijheid zijn gevallen. Deze speciale tour is ontworpen om diegenen te interesseren die geïnteresseerd zijn in oude Griekse veldslagen, diegenen die het grote slagveld van de Perzische oorlogen willen ontdekken, het vliegtuig van Marathon. Op weg van Athene naar de heilige vlakte van Marathon via Attica Highway en Marathon Avenue. Dit is het verloop van de originele Marathon Race, zoals je zult zien aan de borden die elke kilometer tellen. Later zullen we de Tumulus van de Atheners bereiken; de site portretteert moed, moed en uiteindelijk de overwinning van de Atheners tegen de Perzen in 490 v.Chr.
Verder zien we ook het Marathon Battlefield, het Archeologisch Museum met de tumulus van de 11 Plateans en een prehistorische begraafplaats die het bewijs levert van de eerste beschaafde aanwezigheid op deze locatie.
Marathon Bay is de exacte locatie waar Perzen kampeerden.
Rijdend door de huidige stad Marathon, onze laatste stop in dit gebied, zijn we Marathon Lake, op de hellingen van Mt Penteli. Het is een kunstmatig meer dat in het verleden fungeerde als het belangrijkste waterreservoir voor Athene en de dam, een geweldige mechanische constructie uit het begin van de 20e eeuw.
We rijden terug naar Athene.

We had a lovely tour to Marathon accompanied by our driver George. If you are interested in classical antiquity and particularely the greco-persian wars, I would highly recommend this. The Marathon museum and monuments are not particularely spectacular compared to what you can see in Athens, but visiting the place of one of ancient history most important battles was a fulfilling experience for history enthusiasts. The view from the vantage point was terrific. You could get a great overview of the Marthon valley and imagine how it all played out 2500 years ago. George had great knowledge and was eager to explain details of the battle. He was very accomodating and it was also lovely chatting with him about other topics.
