Tijdens deze 2,5 uur durende reis door Lyon, Frankrijk, fiets je op een fietstocht met hoogtepunten die de meest geliefde bezienswaardigheden en verborgen schatten van de stad onthult. Begin aan een schilderachtige reis langs de oevers van de rivieren Rhône en Saône en bewonder majestueuze bezienswaardigheden zoals de kathedraal van Lyon, Hotel Dieu en Palais de Justice. Duik in de levendige wijk Croix-Rousse, beroemd om zijn Boheemse sfeer en levendige straatkunstscene. Onder leiding van deskundige gidsen belooft deze fietstocht een onvergetelijke verkenning van Lyons rijke aanbod aan cultuur, geschiedenis en culinaire hoogstandjes.

Dit indrukwekkende monument werd gebouwd in 1184 en heeft ruim 800 jaar dienst gedaan als ziekenhuis! Deze muren zijn nu een vijfsterrenhotel en winkelcentrum en bevatten veel verhalen over historische verslagen en legendes.
La Croix-Rousse en zijn hellingen zijn gekwalificeerd als UNESCO-erfgoed. La Croix-Rousse is de voormalige arbeiderswijk van Lyon waar de Canuts (of zijdearbeiders uit Lyon) woonden.
Dit fresco, voltooid in 1995, vertegenwoordigt 2000 jaar geschiedenis met 25 historische en 6 hedendaagse figuren uit Lyon. Enkele van de meest opvallende afbeeldingen zijn de Lumiere Brothers, Antoine de St-Exupéry en de Kleine Prins, en Paul Bocuse.
Op het mooiste plein van heel Lyon vindt u het stadhuis, het Museum voor Schone Kunsten en de adembenemende Bartholdi-fontein. Het is de perfecte plek om foto's te maken, een aantal interessante geschiedenis en legendes te leren kennen, en ook even te pauzeren en iets te drinken.
Het Palais de Justice en zijn passerelle vormen een combinatie van twee iconische bezienswaardigheden van de stad. Vanaf de passerelle kunnen bezoekers heinde en verre kijken langs de rivier de Soane, in het hart van de stad.
Deze kathedraal, gelegen in het hart van de oude stad, is een indrukwekkend bouwwerk. Het is in drie eeuwen gebouwd vanaf 1175 en heeft een mix van gotische en romaanse stijlen en beschikt over een astronomische klok uit de 16e eeuw.
Als het grootste voetgangersplein van Europa is Place Bellecour omgeven door geschiedenis, nieuw en oud. Hier ziet u het onlangs gerenoveerde standbeeld van koning Lodewijk de XIV, het Instituut van Paul Bocuse en een gedenkteken voor Antoine de St-Exupéry.
Ten slotte eindigen we onze reis bij La Confluence. Het unieke karakter van de geografie van Lyon wordt gedemonstreerd door de twee waterwegen waartussen het hart van de stad is gebouwd; bij de samenvloeiing worden de twee wateren één. Dit geeft ook een perfect zicht op de deconstructivistische architectuur van het gebied en het museum dat daar gevestigd is.

I can't say enough good things about Frank, the owner of Holland Bike Tours. It was pouring rain with thunder and lightning the day of our tour and we asked to reschedule the next day in the morning. Lyon is a great city to explore by bike with lots of bike paths and we really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Frank, was friendly and informative about the history of Lyon. The bikes were all new Dutch style e-bikes, which were very comfortable and easy to operate. My wife was a bit nervous at first having never ridden an e-bike, but with Frank’s reassurance and care she soon got the hang of it.

We didn’t go on the bike tour but rented the high quality Holland brand. So many cities have the standard rental bikes that are not good touring bikes but the Holland made the ride more enjoyable. We hired the standard gazelle and the e-bike. I must say how impressed we were with Frank who was very knowledgeable and flexible for our needs. He made sure we were outfitted with helmets and gave us all the information for touring Lyon, including his Kamoot tour route. I will look forward to another ride with Hollland!

Very warm welcome by Frank and the two guides, all bikes in prefect condition and all well explained by Frank, very flexible and supportive! He even organised the sunshine for our tour, at arrival it was raining. A great experience to better discover Lyon by bike, this special and beautiful city has a lot to offer. We were a small group and our guide was very cool. Lyon is very bike friendly (some occasional cobblestone streets) and it was a very nice experience to be able to go from one place to another so conveniently!
