If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to slowly air-fry while paying for the privilege, this tour has you covered. We left late because the bus was waiting for another one of its own buses. Fair enough… except we were already marinating on the top deck in blistering heat before the tour had even begun. Once we finally got moving, we spent most of the time not moving, inching through LA traffic while an excruciating automated voice droned on, often describing somewhere we clearly weren’t. It had all the charisma of a malfunctioning sat nav. As for the sights? Unless you’ve always dreamed of touring burger joints, strip malls and roads, prepare for disappointment. I’m from England, where my old school is older than most of the buildings we drove past, so the “highlights” felt decidedly lowlight-ish. Eventually we retreated downstairs to avoid becoming human jerky, only to discover there was almost no ventilation. The only windows that opened were marked “Emergency Use Only.” By that stage, it was beginning to feel like one. Save your money. You’ll see more of Los Angeles, and enjoy it far more, by picking a destination and getting an Uber.
The bus frequency is very limited so there is limited time for Hop off before the Bus end during the day. The audio offered is not aligned with sights in many occasions. Finally, the Buses are not kept well and you feel every bump in the road. Recommended to look at other alternatives. They seemed to be at least two other vendor offering the same service.
Expected this to be an efficient way of getting around and seeing the city but couldn’t have been further from. The buses are actually only every 45-60 minutes, the app to help utilise the tour is outdated as the Chinese Theatre stop appeared not to actually be a stop as shown on the map as the bus driver drove past us leaving us to using Uber for the rest of the afternoon. Totally disappointed and ruined our 1 day to get to see all the sights across the city.
Waste of time and money. The whole trip is just a bus ride, cheaper to take a taxi or ride the city bus.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear the tour didn't meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments and will use them to help improve our guest experience. Best Regards, Razvan@BigBusTours!
Honestly, avoid the hop-on, hop-off buses (Big Bus and City Sightseeing) in LA. The concept sounds good, but it absolutely does not work here. LA is just too massive, and these companies barely have any buses in rotation. I ended up wasting my entire day and my money just sitting around waiting for the next bus to show up instead of actually seeing the city. It completely ruined my day. Save yourself the headache and book one of the smaller, more personal tour buses that do a fixed, set route instead. They’re way more reliable and you’ll actually get to see the sights.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience in Los Angeles did not meet your expectations and that you felt it impacted your day so significantly. We understand how frustrating it must have been to spend long periods waiting for buses instead of being able to explore and enjoy the city. Los Angeles does present unique challenges due to its size and traffic conditions, but we recognize that service frequency and reliability are essential for the hop-on, hop-off concept to work effectively. Your comments about long waiting times and limited bus availability are particularly important, and they will be shared with our operations team for careful review and improvement. We truly regret that your experience did not reflect the enjoyable and convenient sightseeing experience we aim to provide, especially as this type of tour is meant to help visitors make the most of their time in the city. Thank you again for your honest feedback. It is very valuable in helping us improve and better serve our customers. Flavius@BigBusTours
I normally love this company but this was absolutely the worst bus tour of these busses I have ever had. First if you Stay in Santa monica dont bother. The bus pick up is 11:15am It gets you to LA by Beverly hills then had to wait 30 mins for the next bus to do the LA city route this route took us around until the last bus to get back to beverly wait abother 40 mins to get back to Santa Monica. Also one of the stops was not able to get back on as there was an evebt blocking itm Definitely felt like my day was wasted. the auto recording was always so ahead of the stops so you dont know what its talking about. Your pretty much in traffic. Hoping to get off and when you do you have to wait over an hour for the next bus that may come or not. If your in Santa monia dont waste your money. I had more fun walking around the pier and beach then this.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that this experience did not meet the expectations you’ve come to have from Big Bus Tours. We understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with long waiting times, limited service frequency, and the challenges of coordinating between routes from Santa Monica. It’s clear that the day did not offer the smooth and flexible experience that our hop on hop off service is designed to provide. We also regret the disruption caused by stop accessibility issues and the impact this had on your plans. Additionally, your comments about the timing of the audio commentary are very important. We understand how confusing it can be when the narration does not align with the surroundings, as this is a key part of the tour experience. We recognize that Los Angeles presents unique challenges due to its size and traffic conditions, but we fully acknowledge that this should not result in the level of inconvenience you described. Your feedback will be shared with our operations team to review service frequency, route coordination, and the accuracy of the audio system. We’re especially sorry to hear that the experience left you feeling your time was wasted, particularly as a returning customer who has previously enjoyed our tours. Thank you again for your honest and detailed comments. They are extremely valuable in helping us improve. Flavius@BigBusTours
This is just OK. It only runs for 6-7 hours a day, canned commentary that doesn't line up right with the route, buses not as frequent as they should be. We hopped on at stop 4 on the first bus of the day planning to do one full loop before we hopped off. We had to change buses at stop 1 and still sat for about 1/2 an hour on the new bus before leaving again. The bus we had to vacate sat there for more than an hour, because it left a half hour after our new bus. So our original bus was on the route for less than two hours and needed an hour break? Really? I wish we'd just taken the city buses/metro to the places we wanted to see. We could have gotten the same info from Google and wouldn't have wasted our touring day. You can't hop off at more than two stops because the buses are so infrequent. At the end of the day, we still had to take other transport back to the hotel because they stop so early. Drivers weren't unfriendly, but they weren't that helpful either. Not all of the headphone jacks work. Save your $$. We thought it would be more convenient, but it wasn't.
Hello! Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that our service did not meet your expectations due to the schedule, commentary alignment, and delays you experienced during your tour. Your comments regarding the bus frequency, wait times, and headphone jacks have been shared with our operations team so we can address these issues and improve. Best regards, Melisa@BigBusToursTeam
Buses are totally old. The appointments are not kept, and wait times are up to 1.5 hours!!! The drivers are unfriendly.
L A tours by Bigbus is good & can be made more better with increased frequency........1 bus every hour is too long a waiting time. Areas covered are very good & informative.
We booked a 48 hour trip and chose day 1 to understand the sights and day 2 to aim for something specific The start time is so late, 11.15 from Santa Monica, meaning it’s nearly 2pm by the time you hit broadway and the last bus from Beverly Hills is 4.45 meaning you take a risk if you get off somewhere of missing the bus it should be a longer day for the money you pay Overall experience was not value for money unless you’re staying in Hollywood the traffic makes the journeys so long and it’s not very well run in keeping transfer routes timely I’d look for other options from Santa Monica to Hollywood if you want more time there
