U zult horen hoe dit kleine deel van Londen bijna per ongeluk de ontwikkeling van het Engelse Gemene Recht bevorderde dat zich over de hele wereld verspreidde naar de Verenigde Staten, India, Pakistan, Afrika, Australië en nog veel meer landen en de grondlegger was van het systeem van gewoonterecht in de wereld. Mensen die de wereld veranderden, werkten, leefden, vermaakten en werden opgeleid in de Inns of Court, waaronder: *Acht van de ondertekenaars van de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsverklaring * Mohammed Ali Jinnah, de oprichter van Pakistan die meer dan 200 maatpakken bezat en, als advocaat in Londen, nooit twee keer dezelfde zijden das droeg. * Mahatma Gandhi die zijn moeder moest beloven dat hij zich zou onthouden van vlees, alcohol en vrouwen voordat hij zich kon inschrijven in de Inner Temple. * Sir William Blackstone die het handels- en strafrecht in de Verenigde Staten en het Britse Gemenebest beïnvloedde en zei: “Het is beter dat tien schuldigen ontsnappen dan dat een onschuldige lijdt.”

Gebouwd in 1573 en naar verluidt "het meest perfecte" voorbeeld van een Elizabethaans gebouw dat in het centrum van Londen blijft. Zoveel van de Engelse geschiedenis draait om dit gebouw.
We stoppen buiten de Inner Temple Hall. Shakespeare's Henry VI Deel 1 suggereert dat de Oorlog van de Rozen ontstond met het plukken van rode en witte rozen in Temple Gardens. De tuin is meestal open voor het publiek tijdens de week in de middag.
Gebouwd in 1162 door de Tempeliers, in fictie kwam het voor in Dan Browns boek en film, de Da Vinci Code, en in feite in de Magna Carta onderhandelingen, toen Koning John de Tempel gebruikte als een van zijn twee bases in Londen. Tempelkerk zal meestal open zijn na de ochtendtour - de toegang is £5,00.
Het gebouw werd geopend in 1882 door koningin Victoria en was oorspronkelijk ontworpen om 19 rechtbanken te huisvesten en nu zijn er ongeveer honderd. We gaan het gebouw binnen.
Deze Inn bracht elf premiers voort. De Oude Zaal werd rond 1490 gebouwd en werd soms gebruikt als Kanselarijhof.
Is een voormalige Inn of Chancery. De voorkant werd in 1586 gebouwd en is het mooiste voorbeeld van een Tudor vakwerkgebouw in het centrum van Londen.
De zaal werd in 1560 gebouwd en na bomschade gereconstrueerd met een aanzienlijke bijdrage van de American Bar Association. Op het plein staat een standbeeld voor het meest prominente voormalige lid van de Inn. Hoor zijn verhaal en beslis of er een standbeeld voor hem had moeten zijn.

Very informative chance to learn about the British legal system and culture of the courts, as well as the history and famous people associated with the system.
This was the very best experience. Our guide was very engaging and our whole 3 + hours was packed with the history of the area as well as very interesting information on the legal system in the UK and abroad. His very personal experiences of training and working as a barrister added extra dimensions to the tour. An absolute must for anybody!

Our guide, Keith, was punctual, accessible and totally professional. Prior to embarking on this guided walk, I am ashamed to say I knew little about important aspects of the English legal system. This tour was an excellent and entertaining introduction to the development of that system. I particularly valued the opportunity to sit in on a case in the Royal Courts of Justice. Very worthwhile!

Very interesting and recommended. Our guide Erick is a retired lawyer who worked in the area and knows it wonderfully. He is always willing to answer questions thoroughly, and since there were only three of us, it allowed for a very pleasant and informative experience. We entered to witness a trial, which was very unexpected.
The tour leader was extremely well informed. He was pleasant and shared interesting facts and "behind the scenes" information about the tour topic. He clearly cared about our group and readily answered all of our questions. the three hours flew by; I would highly recommend the tour.

Absolutely fascinating tour of a part of London I didn’t know. Beautiful architecture, peaceful squares and some nice eateries and pubs. It was interesting learning the history behind the Inns of Court and getting into the High Court itself. I will definitely revisit.
I went with two friends on this tour, the walking was easy but we covered a lot of ground in terms of seeing things I never knew existed. The guide (who was formerly in the legal profession) was knowledgeable and came up with some interesting anecdotes, I liked the fact he highlighted the eateries in the Inns of Court open to the public. I felt in parts we were transported back in time and could not believe some of the gardens etc. which provided an escape from the hustle and bustle of London. In summary, plenty of detail and intrigue as well as an escape from a busy city - this tour was time very well spent.
