Ontmoet je gids bij JR Saga-Arashiyama Station (voor een ticketgate). Op basis van uw voorkeuren bezoekt u geselecteerde sites in de omgeving van Arashiyama/Sagano. Deze 155 meter lange brug, gebouwd over de Katsura-rivier, is een van de iconische beelden van Arashiyama. Het is een geweldige plek om het omringende landschap en de Arashiyama-bergen als achtergrond te bewonderen.
Deze tempel heeft een lange geschiedenis en is een van de beroemdste zen-tempels in heel Kyoto. Het staat bekend als UNESCO-werelderfgoed en heeft een prachtige tuin waar de planten en bloemen elk seizoen voor een ander gevoel zorgen.
Denjiro Okochi, een beroemde acteur uit de Samurai-film, heeft ongeveer 30 jaar besteed aan het bouwen van deze enorme villatuin, die een oppervlakte van 19.800 vierkante meter beslaat. De tuin is omgeven door kersenbloesems in de lente en herfstbladeren in de herfst en biedt schoonheid in elk seizoen. Gelegen op de heuvel van de berg Ogura, die beroemd is om zijn herfstbladeren sinds de late Heian-periode (794-1185), heeft de Jōjakkoji-tempel ongeveer 200 oude esdoorns, die rood, oranje en geel worden en combineren met het groen van de berg. mos.
Een rustige tempel omgeven door prachtige landschappen die de passage van 1200 jaar hebben overleefd. De tempel staat bekend om zijn herfstbladeren. De tempel wordt 'Nison-in' genoemd omdat deze de twee belangrijkste Boeddhabeelden bevat. De twee belangrijkste afbeeldingen hebben gezichten en figuren als een tweeling, met hun linker- en rechterhand symmetrisch omhoog en omlaag. De tempel ligt op korte afstand van het centrum van Arashiyama, zodat u kunt genieten van een moment van rust.
Deze tempel staat bekend als een "tempel van de tragische liefde". Het was de tempel waar een danseres die door de machten van die tijd werd begunstigd, zijn gunst verloor en tijd als non doorbracht na een gebroken hart. Het terrein van de tempel is bedekt met prachtige groene bamboe en groene esdoorns, met een mos- overdekte tuin. Ook het raam in de voorkamer van de kluis is de moeite waard. Het reflecteert verschillende kleuren, afhankelijk van de manier waarop het licht de kamer binnenkomt.
Dit gebied is al sinds de oudheid een begraafplaats, eerst met windbegrafenis, maar later met aardebegrafenis, waar mensen een stenen Boeddha opdroegen en rouwden om de eeuwige scheiding van de doden. De ongeveer 8.000 stenen Boeddha's en stoepa's die op het terrein zijn verankerd, zijn de graven van mensen die in het gebied begraven liggen.
De oorsprong van deze tempel gaat terug tot de 8e eeuw, maar de tempel werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog onbewoond en werd verlaten nadat een tyfoon in 1950 grote schade veroorzaakte aan het tempelterrein, de zalen en boeddhistische beelden, maar werd in 1955 herbouwd toen de boeddhistische beeldhouwer Nishimura Kimitomo (1915-2003) werd tot abt benoemd en er werd begonnen met de wederopbouw van de meest vervallen tempel van Kyoto. De tempel staat bekend als een "tempel van genezing", waar bezoekers kunnen ontspannen en zich op hun gemak kunnen voelen met de expressieve opstelling van 1.200 beelden van arhats, gesneden door gewone gelovigen.
Toriimoto is een beschermd natuurgebied aan het uiteinde van Sagano, ongeveer 600 meter langs de Atago Highway die naar het Atago-heiligdom leidt. Het gebied heeft een mix van gebouwen in boerderijstijl met rieten daken en gebouwen in machiya-stijl met twee verdiepingen en pannendaken. en heeft een goed bewaard gebleven karakter van een Japans landelijk historisch landschap.

I hope that everyone is lucky enough to get Takashi Okanuma as their tour guide. He was so friendly, informative, funny and told the best stories! He also makes sure everyone has a great time. We were really tired from the days before, and Takashi went out of his way to make sure we were doing the right activities. He even stayed a little longer than our time, because he wanted us to see the parade! He also takes pictures from his own phone, and will send it to you right after the tour. He’s an amazing photographer and knows all the right spots! Takashi really goes above and beyond, and made our day trip to Kyoto very memorable!
Yoshiko, our guide, met us at our hotel for our private morning tour exploring the historic Saga-Toriimoto neighborhood of Arashiyama. As our taxi headed towards our destination, surprise, surprise, the driver informed Yoshiko of the sudden closure that day (all Wednesdays thereafter) of our first stop – Otagi Nenbutsu-ji. Not a problem, a quick pivot, and Yoshiko led us to the hillside site of Adashino Nembutsu ji, a Buddhist memorial ground of 8000 ancient stone grave markers. We followed a bamboo path rising behind the 13-tier pagoda temple — a stunning, contemplative stretch that was blissfully removed from the crowds of the main Arashiyama grove. From there, Yoshiko led us to the tranquil Giōji Temple, guiding us through its serene moss garden while sharing the tragic but tender love story about a spurned dancer who found refuge and became a nun. Our unhurried walk continued down the road with quaint shops interspersed with charming old homes with private gardens arriving at a small local restaurant where we enjoyed a quiet lunch with set meals that were both delicious and beautifully presented. Yoshiko’s English was excellent, making everything feel effortless and engaging, and she sprinkled the day with stories from her own time living abroad, including heart-warming anecdotes about her family. Those personal touches made the entire experience feel even more special and connected. We’re so grateful for the time we spent with her. My family and I booked this tour with our guide Eric we had a four hour tour from 11 to 3 PM. It was a fabuloustour and Eric is a fabulous guide we saw and learned so much about Kyoto. It’s history. It’s temples it’s food and more Eric was very to all of us and gave us so much good advice about what we were seeing and about where to go. An amazing place... such a shame that mass tourism has taken over. Visited in mid afternoon but still rammed. Reports of peoples initials being carved in to the bamboo! Would suggest visiting in early morning or late afternoon, when tour groups have diminished. A lot of tourist tat shops and the start of the forest walk is a 15 minute hike from the car and coach parks.

Our tour guide Mika was great. She created a route based on what we wanted to see and had great recommendations. It was our first time in Kyoto and we only had a day, so this was a good way to see a lot of stuff without having to do all the planning ourselves.
