Verken Gion tijdens een 90 minuten durende begeleide wandeling met een gecertificeerde gids en leer over de rijke geschiedenis, gebruiken en tradities van de wijk. Na de sightseeing zal uw gids u vergezellen om te genieten van een prachtig gepresenteerde Kaiseki maaltijd en tijd doorbrengen met een Geisha of Maiko in een authentieke Kyoto-omgeving. In tegenstelling tot andere tours met shows die speciaal voor buitenlandse bezoekers zijn gemaakt, laat deze tour je ervaren hoe het echt is om te dineren met een Geisha of Maiko. Er zijn geen flitsende shows of snelle dansen – alleen de wabi-sabi van het echte Kyoto. Je kunt vragen stellen, met de Geisha/Maiko spreken en meedoen aan klassieke ozashiki asobi (traditionele Geisha spellen). Belangrijke opmerkingen: 1: Volgens de lokale gewoonte worden gasten gevraagd om één drankje te kopen voor de Maiko of Geisha. 2: Slechts één Maiko of Geisha zal worden geregeld voor uw ervaring; selectie is niet beschikbaar. 3: Houd er rekening mee dat muziek vooraf is opgenomen en niet live wordt uitgevoerd.

Je ontmoet je gids op het station van Kyoto of je hotel in het station van Kyoto. *We kunnen u alleen ophalen binnen Kyoto City.
Je kijkt rond in het Gion-district met een erkende en lokale gids. Je gids leert je over de geschiedenis van het historische Geiko-district van Gion en vele gebieden die je zonder gids nooit zou kunnen vinden. Deze wandeltocht duurt 90 minuten en kan niet met een voertuig worden voltooid. Wij vragen u de privacy van de Geiko en Maiko in de omgeving te respecteren. Maak geen foto's zonder toestemming en maak geen harde geluiden.

We met our guide. Seiko, at our hotel and walked to the Gion district. On the way she told us a lot of history of the area and traditions. She was well versed on so many topics. At the restaurant Seiko joined us for dinner and translated our questions for the Maiko. Our Maiko was amazingly poised and performed her job so well. At 19 she said she hoped to become a Geiko next year. She started her career at 15! She performed two dances for us. One of the Bird and the Plum which told the story of how a male moves between women. The second dance symbolized spring and summer. Both were intricate and exact. Our Maiko taught us a cup game they play in Japan and she giggled when I messed up the pattern. Too cute. It was a dream come true to meet her and ask her all about her culture. She was one of four children and no one in her family had ever taken that path to become a Geiko. She told us it’s a unique world in which she lives. Apart from her family. No cell phones. 2 days off per month. And they are not permitted to go to familiar places like Starbucks or McDonalds. Her life is dedicated to preserving the culture of Japan and entertaining people. Quite remarkable! I am so grateful for this experience. It was incredible!

My wife and I had a great time on this tour. Yoshi was super knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic about the experience. The restaurant he took us to was very good, and our experience with the Geisha (Katsu-tomo) was very entertaining! During dinner, Yoshi served as translator between my wife and I and Katsu-tomo, and this worked seamlessly. This was a very memorable experience and one we would highly recommend to couples or anyone with an interest in Geisha culture in Kyoto.

We booked the Kyoto 4-hour Gion Private Guided Tour with Geiko (Geisha) Dinner and had high hopes for a memorable and engaging cultural experience. While our guide Tomy was very kind and knowledgeable—he gave us a nice walk around Kyoto before dinner—the main attraction, the Geiko interaction, was unfortunately a big disappointment. For nearly $2,000 for four people, we expected something much more immersive and dynamic. The Geiko did perform one short dance and played a single game with us, but the rest of the time felt awkward and unstructured. We were put on the spot to ask questions, and when we didn’t, the room fell uncomfortably silent. There was little effort to guide the conversation or create a lively, entertaining atmosphere, which is what we assumed was part of the experience. To add to the letdown, we were asked if we wanted to end the evening over an hour early. For the price and the promise of an unforgettable cultural exchange, this felt rushed, flat, and far from the rich, engaging evening we were led to expect. This might work for someone simply wanting a brief glimpse of Kyoto’s traditions, but if you’re expecting a meaningful or entertaining interaction with a Geiko, this tour didn’t deliver for us.

We would like to clarify that our tour is one that is not like the flashy shows and energetic entertainment that cater to overseas visitors. These are what you often see on Instagram and other sites. They are not a true representation of Geisha/Maiko culture. Instead, our tour is authentic as this is the experience you would have if you really were to call a Geisha/Maiko to dine with you. This can feel slow and uninteresting to some that are not accustomed to with Japan's traditional culture. We hope that you will have other journeys in Japan that suit what you are looking for soon.
