Wow. What an experience. We did alot of research before leaving Australia as we wanted to do a cooking class. With 5 star reviews we couldn't resist. We booked for 4 but then we had another 6 in our group book based on our advice. From hotel pickup to drop off the experience was outstanding. Did the quick market tour and then walked to the school. Vina the chef was delightful, very welcoming and funny. It was 4 hours of laughter with prep and cooking. There was plenty of food and it was all absolutely delicious. There were 10 in our group. Will be trying the recipes when we get home. Do yourself a favour, hreat value for money, give the cooking class a go, you will have a ball. The "big boy" loved it.
Great experience, amazing food and Vina is such a great host
This was the first activity I booked for my trip and the first one I did when I arrived. Ho picked us up right on time and showed us around the market, which was very interesting as someone who buys everything in a grocery store in Houston, TX. Once we got to the cooking school we met Vina, the chef, who is absolutely charming and very good at what she does. We had the class to ourselves and got tons of attention and personal detail. She gave my husband nicknames which I can’t wait to use later to tease him with. We made fresh shrimp spring rolls, banh xio, lemongrass chicken (my favorite), and clay pot pork (my husbands favorite). I would definitely recommend this class and can’t wait to try these recipes when I get home!
What a great experience with Gioan from start to finish. It began months before our visit, with early WhatsApp communication to select the four dishes we'd make. It was important to me to choose recipes I could realistically recreate at home, and ones that worked around my food allergies — both requirements they accommodated without any fuss. I'd booked our private class nine months in advance, so I was a little nervous when we arrived to find they'd logged it as a group booking. The school sorted it gracefully and without hesitation — splitting us from the other attendees, a family of three, into separate private sessions after a shared market visit. A potential hiccup, handled perfectly. Our instructor Ho took us first to the local VCG market to shop for ingredients. The market itself was a highlight: mostly women, many of whom have been coming seven days a week for over forty years, selling what they grow and make until it runs out. Ho guided us through it with easy expertise, explaining everything we were seeing along the way. Back at the school, we made the four dishes I'd preselected: fish in banana leaf, lemongrass chili shrimp, Pho Ga, and chicken curry. All of them delicious — and all of them successfully recreated at home using the recipes they provided. When I had questions after returning, they answered them promptly via chat. That kind of follow-through is rare and appreciated. But the real secret ingredient was Ho himself. The man is genuinely, unexpectedly, remarkably funny. We enjoyed him tremendously. He even offered to drop us at our tailor appointment afterward — a small gesture that was entirely in keeping with the warmth of the whole experience. Gioan Cooking School is the one.
Highlight of my trip! The food was AMAZING, I learned so much and I had the best day with Vina. She is so funny, knowledgeable and an amazing cook.
This was the highlight of my trip to Vietnam! Vina was so much fun, knowledgeable and really tailored everything to my taste and interests. She’s just the loveliest human being ever
This was a fantastic private cooking class for my family (including kids 15 and 13). Vina was an amazing instructor, but was also so funny and made us really feel like we were with a friend. The food was great and my kids (and us) loved the experience. Highly recommend this cooking class!
Amazing cooking class I've ever had before. Authentic dishes like pho, lemongrass chicken, pancake, spring rolls. She is friendly, kind, expertise of cooking. I also loved her vibe. Highly recommended.
We had such a wonderful time at Gioan Cooking Class! First, we went shopping at a local market close to our hotel with Hoo — he was such a super nice guy and made the experience fun and relaxed. Then we met Vina, who is such a lovely and kind person. She made us feel so welcome from the beginning. During the 3-hour class, we cooked Beef Pho, shrimp spring rolls, lemongrass chicken, and Vietnamese pancakes. Everything was absolutely delicious — honestly the best food we’ve had in Vietnam so far! The class was well organized, hands-on, and so much fun. We learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of it. Wow — what an experience! Highly recommend this cooking class to anyone visiting Hoi An!
Great experience! We love Vietnamese cuisine and wanted to learn how to prepare our favorite dishes! Ho was a great, fun host and very good teacher! It was mega fun, there were many tips and tricks and the food was fantastic! Be sure to do it!
