Ga met ons mee op een spannend Super Jeep avontuur vanuit Vík í Mýrdal om de spectaculaire Katla ijsgrot te verkennen, op de machtige Mýrdalsjökull gletsjer. Deze gletsjer is een van de beroemdste van IJsland en daaruit stroomt de krachtige Kötlujökull-gletsjer, vernoemd naar de legendarische Katla-vulkaan. Na verloop van tijd is deze massieve gletsjer langzaam langs de vulkanische hellingen naar beneden gekropen, waardoor enkele van de meest ontzagwekkende natuurijsgrotten van IJsland zijn uitgesleten. Op de gletsjer zie je een dramatische fusie van kristalblauw ijs en diepzwarte vulkanische as – een surrealistisch contrast dat rechtstreeks uit een fantasiefilm komt. Onder leiding van ervaren lokale gidsen in een speciaal aangepaste Super Jeep belooft deze off-the-beaten-path reis onvergetelijke uitzichten, fascinerende geologie en een van de meest unieke fotomomenten die IJsland te bieden heeft. Onze Gids ontmoet je op de busparkeerplaats achter de Ice Cave Bistro in Vík (aan de kant met uitzicht op de oceaan). Vanaf hier rijden we met een aangepaste super jeep off-road naar de Kötlujökull-gletsjer om de grote Katla-ijsgrot te verkennen.
U wandelt over de Mýrdalsjökull gletsjer en bent getuige van het verbazingwekkende blauwe en zwarte ijs. Let op: IJsgrotten zijn natuurlijke formaties die voortdurend veranderen door veranderende weersomstandigheden en seizoensgebonden elementen zoals temperatuur, zonlicht en neerslag. Hierdoor kan het uiterlijk van de grot afwijken van de getoonde foto's. Voor elke tour bezoeken we de best toegankelijke natuurlijk gevormde ijsgrot die beschikbaar is, gekozen op basis van de huidige omstandigheden en veiligheidsoverwegingen. Deze veranderingen zijn geheel naar eigen inzicht van de natuur, waardoor elk bezoek een unieke ervaring wordt.
We keren terug naar Vík na het ijsgrot avontuur, waar je weer wordt afgezet bij het verzamelpunt.

This was a phenomenal and unique experience. The ice caves are beautiful, fascinating, each one is different. Our tour guide was Helgi (I hope I have that right). Despite that he has done hundreds of tours, he treated ours with enthusiasm as if it was all new to him too. He is very knowledgeable, funny, and absolutely competent. Every year the ice caves shift, so everyone's experience year to year will be different. I had a recent knee replacement and was a little worried about the climbing, but Helgi was there to lend a hand, and generally it is not a physically challenging tour. Bring your camera!!

Absolutely incredible tour. Our tour guide was friendly and took his time with the trip. We never felt rushed. He even had a raven that followed us along the glacier. If you come to Iceland, this tour is a must.
Met at the vik meeting point and the tour was one of the most memorabele tours on our trip. Our tour guide was a very experienced driver and had lots of interesting facts and stories as well as a good relationship with the local ravens that folllowedand landed two feet away from the path to eat some treats. The ice cave was beautiful and the reason we chose the tour, but everything else made the tour unforgettable.

It is not a cave, but a couple of different tunnels. The driver drove like a maniac. Me and my child had fun with the thrilling ride, but my honest opinion is that it was not appropriate.
Awesome trip! The ice cave is stunning to see and photograph! The green blue ice waves are like a sculpture. The ride there is also adventurous. We stoped where they filmed Star Wars. It looked like another planet. Guide was super friendly ! This is a “must do” adventure!

The Katla Ice Cave tour was one of the most magical experiences of my entire Iceland trip. The landscape itself was incredible—standing inside a natural ice cave, it felt like stepping into another world. Every turn revealed something new, from the textures and colors of the ice to the dramatic glacier scenery surrounding us. What made the experience truly unforgettable, however, was our guide, Helgi. He was knowledgeable, funny, engaging, and clearly passionate about Iceland's glaciers and natural history. He had a wonderful way of making everyone feel comfortable while also sharing fascinating information throughout the tour. One of my favorite memories was when he helped us create glacier rainbows in the ice. It was such a simple but beautiful moment that perfectly captured the wonder of the experience. Those little moments are what transform a great tour into an unforgettable one. Helgi's enthusiasm, sense of humor, and genuine love for what he does made the tour even more special. By the end, it felt less like following a guide and more like exploring with someone who was excited to share one of Iceland's greatest treasures. And I definitely recommend you try the water.
