Het bezoeken van de must-sees van Kandy in een dag vol bezienswaardigheden kan stressvol zijn als je alleen bent, met een taxi en onderhandel bij elke stop. U bezoekt eerst de Tempel van de Tand (Sri Dalada Maligawa) om uw stadstour door Kandy te beginnen. Dit is een zeer belangrijke plek voor boeddhisten omdat de linker hoektand van de Boeddha hier bewaard wordt. De Tempel van de Tand is ook een UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocatie in Sri Lanka.
Vervolgens bezoekt u het Kandymeer, dat u kunt zien bij de Tooth Relic Temple. De lokale bevolking noemde dit meer “Kiri Muhuda.” Dit is een geweldige plek voor een ontspannen wandeling en om een paar minuten te ontspannen. Er wordt aangenomen dat het meer in 1807 door koning Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe is aangelegd.
Na Kandy Lake bezoekt u Kandy View Point. Dit is een mooie plek vanwaar u Kandy City kunt bekijken. Het ligt op een paar meter afstand van het meer. Kandy View Point zou in elke Kandy Tour-route moeten worden opgenomen.
Uw volgende bestemming is de Bahirawakanda Tempel. Het gigantische Boeddhabeeld in deze tempel zal zeker mensen naar deze plek trekken. Iemand noemt dit ook wel ‘Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya’. Het enorme beeld is 25 meter hoog en kan tot de top worden beklommen. Dit is een ander geweldig uitkijkpunt om Kandy te bekijken.
Het National Gem and Gemological Museum is de volgende halte op uw reisroute. Hier kunt u alles leren over de archeologie van Sri Lanka en hoe ze data van 4,6 miljard jaar geleden omzetten. U zult ook geluk hebben om enkele zeldzame mineralen in dit museum te zien. De plek is een geweldige plek voor degenen die graag nieuwe dingen leren.
Na uw bezoek aan de theefabriek, zou uw volgende stop de Peradeniya Botanical Garden moeten zijn. Het is de grootste botanische tuin in Sri Lanka, met een oppervlakte van 147 hectare. Hier kunt u bijna 4000 plantensoorten observeren. Naast de bloementuin trekt het ook bezoekers. Peradeniya Botanical Garden ligt op 6 km van de stad en het is een fijne plek om te ontspannen.
Volgens de Kandy City Tour Itinerary, bezoekt u vervolgens een theefabriek. U bent dus niet langer in de stad. Hier leert u het hele proces van het produceren van de beroemde Ceylon-thee van begin tot eind. Thee is een belangrijk economisch gewas in Sri Lanka en levert een enorme bijdrage aan de economie van het land. Na uw bezoek aan de theefabriek,
Ambuluwawa is een biodiversiteitscomplex en Sri Lanka's eerste multireligieuze heiligdom gelegen in de centrale hooglanden van het land. De afstand vanaf Kandy is 25,2 km. Ambuluwawa, gelegen op een hoogte van 3567 voet, op de top van een piek die slechts vier kilometer van Gampola oprijst. Het is een gemakkelijke en veilige klim met een spectaculair uitzicht - helemaal tot aan de zee op een heldere dag. 's Avonds bekijkt u de Kandy Cultural Dance Show. Deze wordt georganiseerd door de Kandy Lake Club, waar u veel traditionele dansen kunt zien. Deze dansen zijn ook te zien op het Kandy Esala Perahera festival. U zult geluk hebben om enkele van deze dansen buiten het festival te zien.

I highly recommend Janaka! I've traveled a lot, but I've never had such a great guide. I spent six days with Janaka, traveling around central and southern Sri Lanka in a brand-new, super comfy van. From the start, Janaka was very communicative and helpful. When we finally met him, he totally exceeded our expectations. Janaka is not only an excellent driver and guide but also a kind, wise person with a great sense of humor. We felt completely taken care of. Every place he recommended—whether attractions, restaurants, or hotels—was fantastic. The cherry on top was when he invited us to a home-cooked dinner with his family. His wife made an amazing feast! Climbing to the top of the steep staircase you can enjoy a magnificent view. Not suitable for those who are afraid of heights.
Booked Janaka for a one day tour of Kandy. It was the best day of our trip so far. Everything was no problem and took the hassle of us organising the day ourselves! Janaka was super fun, telling us stories and intestering facts about Sri Lanka! He even was a great photograph too! Janaka was so good, we even booked him for a second day to take us to Nuwara Eliya where he stopped at places we would never have known about! He also gave us plenty of recommendations for the rest of our trip in Sri Lanka! He was the perfect driver 👌
