Ga rechtstreeks naar uw trein zonder dat u een kaartje hoeft te kopen op het treinstation van Kandy. Stap in de trein en neem plaats in uw comfortabele eersteklas stoel voordat u op avontuur gaat. Vertrek met uitzicht op weelderige groene theeplantages, mistige bergen, trapsgewijze watervallen en landelijke dorpjes door de grote treinramen. Het landschap is vaak gehuld in mist, wat een mystieke kwaliteit toevoegt aan de omgeving. Komt langs verschillende pittoreske watervallen, zoals de beroemde Ravana Falls. Deze watervallen creëren dramatische taferelen tegen de achtergrond van de groene heuvels. Laat u verwennen met een panoramisch uitzicht op bergen en valleien. Stap aan boord van uw trein in Kandy en begin uw magische reis door ruige bergen, weelderig groen en ongerepte meren. Zoek je plaats in de eersteklas sectie van de trein en installeer je. Als u naar Ella rijdt, rijdt de trein eerst door een smalle bergkam en mistige groene bossen voordat u in Highlands verschillende ruisende watervallen bereikt. Verder door Nanuoya en kleine dorpjes rondom het prachtige landschap van Sri Lanka. Terwijl u langs de weelderige velden met thee loopt, steekt u Horton Plains binnen en kijkt u uit naar wilde dieren en glamoureuze omgevingen. DO NOT BOOK. Tour operator Ceylon Pass didnt show up even tough i paid them 80 euros per ticket. Normal price at the train station: 1,50 euro... Still went on a train. Overrated. Way to crowded, most people dont have a seat, and the views are nice for a couple of seconds. Trust me, this is hyped by tiktok and instagram because pretty girls are hanging out of the windows. If you like views: go on a hike to Ella's Rock. 10000x prettier, more fun and better memories.
This was one of the best trips we ever had. We loved every second of this journey.

With Kandy station closed, the journey to Ambewela is quite long, so I really appreciated the opportunity to stop and stretch our legs along the way. It was also a lovely surprise when the driver provided fresh coconuts, strawberries, and snack bags for us. As I’m no spring chicken, I was particularly grateful for the help with my bags and being kindly shown to my seat - it made a real difference. The whole experience felt thoughtful and well organised. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company.

The train is currently only partially doable due to a large part of faulty rails (about 2/3 of the entire journey). Inquiries initially yielded nothing, but a few days before departure it was said that an alternative van was arranged which drives you past some special places and drops you off at the boarding point of the train journey. In our case there was driving as if the devil was after him, hairpin turns through the mountains and there was only a stop at a tea factory. No time to finish the whole tour (25 minutes) because we ‘had to catch a train’. We arrived more than an hour early for departure, but it turned out that the driver also had a pick-up at the station, so he probably had to pull such breakneck tours. On the train it turned out that we had also been assigned the most lame aisle spots, so we hardly had a view of indeed an improbably beautiful environment. Warned if we were told that tickets would not be available, we had already bought our tickets weeks in advance. People just bought tickets at the stations and not only arranged great seats next to each other but also on the ‘good’ (left) side. It would be good if Viator had informed us in advance that a large part of the trip could not be made. Then we would certainly have chosen a different solution! We are very disappointed by Viator by organizing this most expensive trip we have made in Sri Lanka. For a third of the amount you can be taken to a pick-up point in a comfortable taxi and there you have all the time and opportunities to buy a ticket at the station for the regular price!
The train itself was great, but the assurance when booking that the guide would navigate the station and escort you to your seat was not correct. I am a solo traveller and an older person and the reason that I booked my ticket with a tour operator was because I wanted slightly more tlc in this respect. I do consider that what I paid for in this respect was not forthcoming,
Hi Wendy, Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately due to overcrowding at stations guards only allow limited number of people to board the train to assist customers.
