The holograms were fun, the VR was quite good and there was lots of interactive information boards. However, it was not worth the entrance cost. We were particularly disappointed that the digital walk through of the currently closed Viking Museum was not available. It is listed on the website and we were not informed as we paid that it is not currently working.
We stopped by on a Friday afternoon in June and though there were quite a few people here, the space (it’s essentially all in one room) was large enough. There was no real direction, so we just started engaging in the various displays, which were all quite interesting. The VR was fun too.
Having visited Viking museums in York, Copenhagen and Stockholm, I almost gave this a miss! Thankfully I didn't and was rewarded with a fresh approach to presenting the Viking story, using up to date technology that challenged the senses. Highly entertaining and informative at the same time
It feels more like a polished digital experience about Vikings than a genuinely immersive or memorable one. On paper, it promises a modern, high-tech dive into Viking history, but in practice it leans heavily on screens, VR, and effects that never quite add up to something emotionally or intellectually gripping. It can feel a bit like a very good museum trailer that forgot to become the full film. There are moments where it works, some of the visual reconstructions are slick, and the VR elements are fun in a “five minutes of novelty” kind of way, but it doesn’t really ground you in the story of the Vikings in the way you’d hope. You leave knowing more, perhaps, but feeling less connected to it all. It also suffers a bit from comparison. In a city where places like the Fram or the Folk Museum give you atmosphere, space, and texture, this feels more like a curated experience rather than a place you inhabit. In short: interesting idea, shiny execution, but not much staying power once you step back out into Oslo. *Visited with the Oslo Pass.
Great interactive experience! Spent there more than one hour, VR movie was also quite fun. Definitely worth getting special specially in case of bad weather
Thank you for the excellent review and recommendation. We are very happy that you enjoyed your time with us.
a fun visit......some good things to see & do......can imagine its very busy in peak season......but going in Feb - it was pleasantly quiet
Thank you for a very positive rating Andrew.
Too expensive for only projected movies, reading panels and interactive screens.
We are sorry that your visit did not meet your expectations Hazel.
The exhibit was full of historical facts with the timeline throughout history laid out very well. I would have liked more live human explanations of the Viking world.
Thank you for the very positive feedback and recomendation. We are offering guidet tours for bigger groups that include more in depth verbal explanaitions.
We had a really cool time at the museum and would definitely recommend it! If you want to know about Vikings and the history of Norway it's a must-see! And as it ia really interactive it's not boring at all, so you get involved in the whole museum!
Thank you for the excellent review and recommendation. We are delighted that you enjoyed all our immersive and interactive experiences.
Toilets were unclean, under dimensioned and not available in reception on arrival. Overrated for learning experience, requires a lot of reading, so not good for children that can't read. Syggest best 12+ age group. No senior citizen pricing. Ticket purchase was simple at reception. Selfie ideas were good. Tour of Viking Museum good.
We are sorry that your visit did not live up to expectations, Our toilets are in the museum and not in the reception area. All the content has been curated by a viking expert so there should be a lot ot learn from our exhibits. We are happy that you enjoyed the tour of the Viking ship museum.
