De privétour door Ithaca begint vanuit Kefalonia en gaat over een bezoek aan ons zustereiland Ithaca, de thuisbasis van de mythologische held Odysseus, een van de grootste helden van de Trojaanse oorlog. Als u vertrekt vanuit Sami, is het slechts 30 minuten met de veerboot naar Ithaca, waar u aankomt in de haven van Pisso Aetos
We gaan eerst naar de hoofdstad Vathy, waar u tijd heeft om te winkelen, een ideale gelegenheid om wat handgemaakte kant te kopen die door de plaatselijke dames is geproduceerd of om een bezoek te brengen aan de archeologische of folkloristische musea van de stad.
Klooster van Panagia Katharon (afstand 10 km), gelegen op de berg Neritos op een hoogte van 600 meter (1.967 voet), met zijn spectaculaire uitzichten over het hele zuidelijke deel van Ithaca. Van daaruit gaat u verder naar het nabijgelegen dorp Anoghi (afstand 2 km) met zijn beroemde kerk van Panagia, waarvan bekend is dat deze aan het einde van de 17e eeuw in zijn huidige vorm is gerenoveerd, maar vermoedelijk dateert uit de 12e eeuw. De kerk is gewijd aan Panagia en het interieur bevat opmerkelijke en indrukwekkend bewaard gebleven Byzantijnse fresco's.
Dit is de grootste stad in het noordelijke deel van het eiland, met de beeltenis van Ulysses op het centrale plein en een interessant archeologisch museum. De bevindingen van de opgravingen die in het gebied hebben plaatsgevonden, worden hier tentoongesteld en u krijgt de kans om een korte blik te werpen op deze kleine maar zeer interessante collectie uit de Myceense en Korinthische periode.
We gaan verder naar het noorden, naar het pittoreske dorpje Kioni (afstand 5 km). Deze traditionele nederzetting is een van de mooiste in Ithaca met typische huizen die amfitheatrisch zijn gebouwd rond een kleine, tegen de wind beschermde baai. Hier heeft u wat vrije tijd om de souvenirwinkels of leuke cafés en restaurants te verkennen
Filiatro is het meest kosmopolitische strand van Ithaca. Het strand bestaat uit kiezelstenen en het water is geweldig: transparant, turkoois en helder het hele jaar door, zelfs als het strand druk is!
Terug naar de haven van Piso Aetos waar we de veerboot terug naar Kefalonia nemen

We had an outstanding experience with Kefalonia Tours and highly recommend them. Dimitris responded promptly to all my questions and made booking easy. The Ithaca tour was especially memorable — Dimitris brought the history and mythology of Odysseus to life, explaining the archaeological site believed to be his palace, including the reconstruction by Italian researcher Bruno Mazzali. Fascinating and truly educational. The Kefalonia Highlights Tour was equally enjoyable. Mario timed our visit to Melissani Cave perfectly to see the lake at its most beautiful, and Drogarati Cave was spectacular too. We also loved visiting a local olive oil producer. Amazing day in Ithica! Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and really cared about giving us an expirence that was tailored to our interests. This island is stunning! This trip to Greece was our graduation gift for our eldest daughter, who fell in love with Greek mythology when she was 5, loved Percy Jackson in childhood, and became immersed in Homer's Odyssey in college. Visiting the land and Palace of Odysseus is a dream come true for her and Dimitris made it happen! Impressively, Dimitris tailored our tour so everyone in our family was happy, including our younger daughter who is not especially a fan. Dimitris is warm and knowledgeable. In addition to showing us all the important landmarks (Palace of Odysseus, Vathy Museum, statue of Homer, Penelope, Lord Byron, and of course Odysseus). Because we are fans of Asterix and Obelix, he showed us a Menhir made by nature. He took us to some beautiful beaches with intense turquoise waters, a wonderful lunch spot by the water (order the grilled sardines - literally caught next to you), gave us time to explore on our own in Vathy (best bakery - get the orange honey syrup cake!), drove us safely and comfortably on winding roads through scenic villages and vistas, and taught us the history and mythology surrounding the island of Ithaca (Ithaki).

This was a private trip i.e. just the two of us. It was a really good day where we got to see beautiful Ithaca. Our guide knew all the places we could go but, we got to choose where we went and what we did. You could be as active as you want (or not).
This tour is great for anyone wanting to experience more of the Ionian Islands. Custom tour that you decide what to do. Although, our guide helped us decide by offering many options. The views are stunning, the history almost endless and you can even go swimming in one of the many secluded beaches. You are driven everywhere so, as little or as much walking as you prefer. Dimitris tailored our tour around us. Ithaca with an expert guide at your pace doing what you want to do…makes a full day fly by.
Just spent the most amazing day in Ithaca, thanks to Dimitris. His knowledge of the history of Ithaca and Homer’s Odyssey is extensive and he’s very interesting to listen to. He suggested an itinerary based on our interests and was more than happy to stop wherever and whenever we wanted, nothing was too much trouble. I never felt rushed at any of our stops and wasn’t made to feel like I was just a customer. His vehicle is very comfortable and his driving is excellent – I felt very safe on the steep, narrow roads and hair-pin bends!
