Ga met ons mee op een dorpstour in Alaska en een krabfeest! Onze lokaal beheerde en beheerde tour is uw kans om een diepere verbinding te vormen. We zullen je leren hoe we onze heerlijke lokale dungenesskrab uit Alaska vangen, koken en kraken. We nemen je ook mee door het dorp en naar onze favoriete foerageerplek om je een beetje te laten zien hoe we overleven en bloeien in dit afgelegen paradijs.

De eerste stop is de kade in het dorp Hoonah. Hier bewaren we onze commerciële krabboot en onze ochtendvangst aan krabben. Kies uw verse krab terwijl wij al uw vragen over de commerciële visserij en krabben in Alaska beantwoorden. We vissen op roze zalm om als aas te gebruiken voor onze commerciële krabben. Alle uitrusting is aan boord, zodat we u aan de kade een demonstratie kunnen geven van de werking ervan.
De volgende stop is het dek boven het water bij Hoonah Beach House. Dit is slechts een korte stop om onze krab voor later op het ijs te zetten, en eventueel naar het toilet te gaan als dat nodig is. We zullen later terugkeren naar deze locatie voor het krabfeest!
De volgende stop is een bebost privéterrein net buiten het dorp. We zien hier af en toe bruine kustberen, dus houd je camera gereed. Dit is waar Srisa en ik de wilde Alaska-bessen plukken waarvan je zult genieten in je dessert tijdens het krabfeest. We hebben ook een kleine tuin en boomgaard. We praten graag over wat er nodig is om te overleven en te gedijen op onze afgelegen locatie.
Vervolgens gaan we terug naar het dorp om onze vrienden te zien bij de houtsnijwerkschuur. Dit is je kans om te zien hoe lokale Tlingit-meesters totempalen maken van gele cederhoutblokken.
De laatste stop is het dek bij Hoonah Beach House voor wat verse krab! De krab die we eerder hebben bevroren, is nu klaar om gekookt en bereid te worden. Ontspan en kijk terwijl we je de lokale manier laten zien om krab te koken. De meeste mensen hebben nog nooit krab vers van de boot geprobeerd. Meestal serveren krabhutten voorgekookte, bevroren en opnieuw verwarmde krab. Zelfs degenen die "vers" adverteren. Niet Wij! Dit is de real deal, en je zult het verschil niet geloven. De meeste mensen vertellen ons dat dit de beste krab is die ze ooit hebben gehad.

Small, personal absolute fantastic Todd and Teresa were fantastic. Great experience and Todd has a lot of knowledge about the area.. Meal was delicious.. Highly recommend.
This tour was nice. We watched him bring up the crab pots full of crabs, and his wife cooked us a very lovely meal. The negative part about this tour was that we were in a van and we had no microphone, so he really just spoke to whoever was sitting beside him. I would have liked to have heard a little history about the area we travelled in and maybe have him take us to some different spots around town and include everyone in his conversation. We had a about 30 minutes after our meal, where we just sat outside and talked to the fellow travellers. The weather was a bit chilly, and I felt the tour was a little bit longer than needed. Having said all this, I still think the tour was nice, and if you like crab, you'll get to eat a crab that's fresh out of the water.
Todd and his wife were excellent hosts. Their story is interesting. They have worked hard to establish a business to give tourists an excellent experience. It was wealth worth it and delicious. Would do it again.
Amazing tour and incredibly friendly host family. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome at their restaurant and then they cooked some amazing food (Dungeness crabs and homemade Thai rice) which was excellent!! Todd describe what it was like to live in this small town. Highly recommend this tour.

We enjoyed getting to know Sirisa & Todd, and how they live in Icy Strait! It's beautiful there! We loved watching the process of catching, cooking, and eating the fresh crab! The rice and dessert was a bonus. We weren't sure what to expect, but we really enjoyed it!
This, by far, was one of our favorite excursions. The couple who run this live there and are just wonderful and so informative. It was like just being their guest! Learning about how locals live there, experiencing catching crabs and then being chauffeured around in their lovely Van was such a great learning experience and then the fabulous fresh crab dinner with dessert was wonderful. The views were incredible! Tracy’s Crab Shack, that everybody seems to rave about was just an overpriced restaurant serving frozen crab. For about the same price you get this fabulous tour AND a delicious fresh crab dinner. Doesn’t get any better than that! We happened to be tipped off at a most unlikely meeting at an outlet mall in Vero Beach with a couple who had just been there. Great recommendation!
Wonderful tour with our hosts Todd and his lovely wife Srisa. Found the tour easily a short gondola ride and walk from the Celebrity Solstice port. For the first time I tasted Dungeness crab caught the same day— delicious! Todd shared the best way to steam and prep easy to eat crab. Srisa prepared a lovely Thai rice.
The tour and meal were outstanding! It’s a real family business in the town (away from the cruise ships). We got a sense of what it’s like to live here, met a local totem pole carver, and had the freshest dungeness crab (delicious). Thanks for a perfect morning!
