Cairo is a dirty and chaotic city; the street vendors are a plague. The museum seems abandoned, very neglected. It is incredible that so many treasures were there until recently.
With Georg Samy from Horus Travel to the NMEC with him as guide and a driver. George arranged a wheelchair as i am handicapped. The museum is much smaller then the GEM, but also very interesting describing the history of Egypt from 2,3 million years ago untill now. In the cellar are the mummies of 22 Farao s, each in his/her own room with the sarcofaag and description of live and family. Woman with their original red hair. After local diner back to the Horus Guesthouse in Gizeh.
Museum is very clean and well organized. In the garden you were not allowed, possibly renovation work. Was very interesting to see the mummies, unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos.
Some wonderful Egyptian artifacts. The artifacts covered a huge timeline--all the way back to prehistoric--which I haven't seen in other Egyptian museums. The explanations under the artifacts added to the experience. There were a few areas where further explanation could have helped but lucky for me I had a guide so I was able to ask her further questions. The best part of the whole experience for me was the Royal Mummies Hall in the 'basement' where you got to see many beautified mummies. You aren't allowed to take photo there which was a bummer but there is a great museum store where there are plenty of books you can buy with the mummies in them.
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Cairo is a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring Egypt’s rich and fascinating history. The exhibits cover an incredible timeline — from prehistoric times, with stone tools dating back over 10,000 years, to the era of the great pharaohs. Entry tickets cost LE 550 for non-Egyptians. Do not rush, take your time as you move through the museum . Pause at each display, read the descriptions, and let yourself travel back in time to imagine how the ancient Egyptians lived and achieved so much. One of the highlights of NMEC is the Royal Mummies Hall, where 22 royal mummies are preserved in specially designed, temperature- and humidity-controlled cases. Be sure to read the information next to each mummy to learn about the remarkable lives and accomplishments of these ancient rulers. Please note that photography is not allowed in this section.
We visited with our guide because the Gem is closed and very well. It has many interesting pieces from prehistory to almost today. Maybe the royal mummies' room. The pity is that you can’t take pictures, not because you don’t take pictures of mummies, but because of posters that are very interesting. We recommend. Impressive how well preserved they are. We stayed about an hour and a half. 550 Egyptian pounds each person
Historical and Cultural of Egyptian will be presented in this museum. We are fascinated with all the statues and archeological stuffs in this museum. It’s really open our eyes and learn about the Egyptian heritage…. A place must visit! Also there are a lot of restaurants in the museum with great place to chill out.
I went to show my mummy to my fifth grade son for the first time. It also serves as a summer research project. It felt like a haunted house, and my son was terrified at first, but as he looked at them, he seemed to get used to them, and took his time. There is a bit of creepiness from the entrance, but the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Some mummies can be seen up close, others from a distance. I was surprised to find about 20 of them. I thought there were only a few. All but mummies are permitted. In addition to mummies, there are also exhibits from various historical periods, so it is not that wide, so it is not exhausting. I think it's a museum the right size for fifth graders. The price was 90p for adults, 45p for children and 400p for foreigners. There is a souvenir shop and two small cafes. It was a modern and stylish building.
This newly built museum is firstly stunning from the outside, you get to see the citadel and city of the dead from the square - which is already a tick for me! It has very few items in the main hall, but it's the entire Mummy hall that is worth the visit. The dark, quiet space gives you a feeling of protection of these ancient mummies. The gift shop is actually very well priced considering it's in a museum. You can buy lovely things in there for a good price.
A new museum on the right bank of the Nile. Pleasant modern architecture of the building. Interesting is the exhibition with numerous curiosities and lesser-known details. I visited it with care and attention for the first time, excluding the wards dedicated to ancient mummies, where it is even colder for technical reasons. Many mummies were gathered downstairs. Pleasant Egyptian events of the last 230 years that I already knew to a large extent.
