Beschrijving
Het archeologische complex van Sillustani (FUNERAL TOWERS) bevindt zich op het hoogplateau, omringd door een magische lagune genaamd Umayo van adembenemende schoonheid in de westelijke stad Puno. Sillustani is een van de belangrijkste necropolis in de Andes wereld bekend om zijn gigantische funeraire torens "CHULLPAS". De beroemde Chullpas zijn in steen opgetrokken torens die werden gebruikt door diverse culturen, waaronder de collas en later door de Inca's. De chullpa van de Hagedis valt op als de hoogste van de site en bereikt meer dan 12 meter hoogte. In de omgeving zijn enkele waru waru te zien, kunstmatige terpen ter bescherming van gewassen tegen vorst en overstromingen. Met een geluk in Sillustani kun je ook wilde varkens van Indië observeren, vogels zoals flamingo's en andere wilde dieren van de hoge Andes.

Ophalen vanaf uw hotel is om 14:00 uur met een privébus. Het duurt ongeveer 45 minuten om bij de archeologische vindplaats Sillustani te komen. Hier ziet u Inca's en pre-incan grafgraven. Nadat je ook Umayo Lagoon hebt bezocht voordat je terugkeert naar Puno. Je gaat rond 17.30 uur terug naar Puno.

Excellent half-term tour! The guide Alejandro made all the difference with his sympathy and knowledge. The route is great, passing through the Puma Mirador, visiting a local family and ending in the impressive ruins of Sillustani. The archaeological site is next to a wonderful lake, which brings a unique atmosphere of peace to the place. I highly recommend!

Bit of a rocky start as we were picked up on foot and then stood awkwardly on a corner for about 20 mins or more waiting to be picked up on a big bus - however the tour itself was really fun and super informative: we had an excellent guide who was full of info and gave a really thorough tour of the site.

Overall, the trip was very informative. Our group was bilingual so the group did the tour in Spanish in English. There are two things that I didn’t like. The first is that the tour went two hours past the time that it said that it was going to end, which made me late forother plans that I have that evening. The second is that when it started raining the tour guide ran off and left us behind. I wish that he would’ve waited for us.

Tour was very good and guide was knowledgeable and very helpful with my friend who was having some difficulties walking the steps.
This trip exceeded our expectations. Our guide spoke good English, was well informed and enthusiastic and provide lot of additional stories about the life of local people. We had a couple of small but interesting, genuine and engaging stops, especially a visit of a local farmer where we learned about their daily life, diet, and crop treatment (note the best prices for hand made souvenirs). The final stop at Silusstani and the visit of impressive burial towers (chullpas) is an absolute MUST when touring Puno. This is a treat for those interested to learn more about pre-Inca and Inca civilizations and those who would appreciate a stunning landscape for photographs. Absolutely worth it.
