We were a group of friends visiting Ethiopia for the first time, and we wanted to get a feel for Addis Ababa before continuing with the rest of our trip. After the museum, we went to Mercato, and the atmosphere completely changed. It was crowded, colorful, noisy, and full of activity. We saw everything from food and spices to clothing and everyday household products. One thing I appreciated was that our guide didn't just take us through the market and point at things. He explained what we were seeing and helped us interact with the local environment respectfully. Looking back, the three stops worked really well together. Entoto showed us the city from above and gave us historical context, the National Museum connected us with Ethiopia's ancient past, and Mercato showed us the energy of present-day Addis Ababa. We had a great time as a group, and Danakil Depression Tours made the whole experience easy without making us feel like we were being rushed through a checklist.

But for me, Mercato was the real highlight. The market was huge and incredibly busy. There were vendors selling spices, clothing, household goods, food, coffee, and all kinds of everyday products. There was so much happening at once that I'm honestly glad we had a local guide. He helped us navigate the area and explained what different sections of the market were known for. What I liked most was that Mercato didn't feel like a staged tourist attraction. It felt like we were seeing a real part of everyday Addis Ababa. We watched people shopping, vendors negotiating, deliveries being made, and businesses operating around us. Traveling with friends made the whole experience even better because we were constantly pointing things out to each other and laughing about the things we saw. Danakil Depression Tours gave us a good balance between sightseeing and experiencing normal city life. It wasn't just "look at this attraction, take a picture, move on."

Our guide explained the importance of Lucy and Ethiopia's role in the story of human evolution. We also had time to look at other exhibits and learn about the country's long history. The final part of the tour was Mercato, which was probably the biggest contrast to Entoto. After spending time in the quiet mountain air, suddenly we were surrounded by people, shops, vendors, cars, and activity. Mercato felt incredibly energetic, and having our guide with us made it much easier to understand what we were seeing instead of simply walking through a huge market without context. Our guide from Danakil Depression Tours did a great job of connecting everything together. Entoto gave us the history and views, the National Museum gave us the ancient story of Ethiopia, and Mercato showed us modern everyday life. For a half-day tour, we felt like we got a surprisingly broad introduction to Addis Ababa.

One of the most exciting parts of our Addis Ababa trip was exploring the city together with friends. The highlight was definitely Merkato, one of Africa's largest open-air markets. Everywhere we looked there was something happening—vendors selling spices, coffee, clothing, handmade goods, and countless other products. It felt energetic, chaotic, and unforgettable in the best possible way. We also explored Piassa, where we stopped for coffee, took photos, and enjoyed the mix of old and new Addis Ababa. Every corner seemed to have something interesting to discover. The tour felt less like sightseeing and more like experiencing the real city.
