Ga van de gebaande paden af met een trip naar het klooster van Sint Simon, ook wel bekend als de grotkerk van Sint Simon, tijdens deze privétour die ook de prachtige kerken van Koptisch Caïro verkent. U ziet enkele van de belangrijkste christelijke locaties van Caïro, waaronder de kerk van Sint Sergius en Bacchus, de kerk van Sint Barbara en de Hangende Kerk, terwijl u verder gaat dan alleen sightseeing voor een glimp van 'vuilnisstad', een fascinerende wijk van Caïro die de meeste bezoekers volledig over het hoofd zien.

Onze gids haalt u op bij uw hotel in Cairo of Giza en brengt u vervolgens met een privéauto naar het Koptische oude Cairo. Begin eerst met het fort van Babylon, 98 v.Chr. door de Romeinse keizer Trajanus, bezoek vervolgens de hangende kerk die dateert uit de derde eeuw en werd gebouwd op de 2 torens die overbleven van het fort van Babylon. Vervolgens bezoeken we de heilige cryptekerk, omdat we geloofden dat de heilige familie daar drie maanden verbleef. Bezoek vervolgens de Joodse gemeenschap om de Ben Ezra-synagoge te bezoeken en uw gids zal u vertellen over de Joodse geschiedenis en hun komst naar Egypte en profeet Mozes.
Ga dan naar het klooster van Sint Simon, ook bekend als de grotkerk van Zabbaleen, dat dateert uit de tiende eeuw na Christus voor Sint Simon de leerlooier. Het ligt in de Mokattam-berg en is uitgehouwen in de oorspronkelijke rots van de berg om de grootste kerk in Egypte en het Midden-Oosten te zijn. Een korte rit door de zogenaamde "Garbage City" - een grote populatie vuilnismannen of Zabbaleen die daar wonen.

We wanted to see a different side of Cairo beyond the usual attractions, and this tour was perfect. The Cave Church was absolutely incredible and unlike anything we had seen before. The churches of Old Cairo were historic and inspiring. Our guide Ramy explained everything clearly and made the day memorable.

After doing the tour Koptic and Islamic highlights i continued with the guide Mina and driver George from Bishoo Travel to see the excavatrd church. Driving through “ rubbish city” where 90 to 95 % are Christians gave me a good view of the daily life of these citizens and their recycling activities, the church itself and the carvings in the rock were brilliant, together with the stories and history of the church. My guide Mina was passionated which I liked a lot.

First time in Egypt, we booked a day trip to visit Old Cairo churches and Saint Simon Cave monastery with Magic Cairo Tours via Viator. Our guide Marsil picked us up from our hotel and provided to be a wealth of knowledge of the sites we visited. Beautiful experience, very interesting both for the churches that you visit in the Coptic quarter in downtown Cairo and for the church of St. Simon in the mountain.
