De oude ommuurde stad Girona staat op een vestingachtige heuvel, hoog boven de samenvloeiing van de rivieren Onyar en Ter. Als de provinciale hoofdstad heeft het een lange en voorname geschiedenis. Opgericht door Iberiërs, noemden de Romeinen het later Gerunda en vestigden het als een belangrijk pleisterpunt op de Via Augusta, dat Iberia met Rome verbond. De enorme 15e-eeuwse kathedraal, met de breedste niet-ondersteunde gotische boog ter wereld, domineert de skyline, maar veel van de aantrekkingskracht van de stad ligt in het verkennen van de middeleeuwse straten, vooral rond de charmante Joodse wijk. Je kunt de rivier de Onyar oversteken via de brug gebouwd door Gustave Eiffel "Pont de les Peixeteries Velles", een van de meest populaire monumenten van de stad. Ona was our tour guide, very friendly and informative. There was only the two of us booked on this tour so we were able to have some good conversations about the history around Girona and some general Catalan and Spanish culture. The tour was a great start to our short stay in the city and helped really get a feel for the history and significance of the City and get our bearings for exploring ourselves the rest of the evening and next day.
Pau was a wonderful guide who took his time and provided a very informative introduction to Girona.

We made a city walk in Girona with Neska as a guide, she uses her Ipad to show how it used to be compared to now, she speaks good English and because we were the only 2 of the group she could also answer questions we asked, had nice conversations and finally had a drink with each other
