The stops on this tour are wonderful. Additionally the transportation was very smooth and convenient. However I felt this tour was lacking in terms of education and clarity. While our guide did speak about historic sites as we passed them in the ride up he did not teach us any history of Inisheer which is the longest stop on this tour. All the guide mentioned was you could book a horse and buggy ride, bicycles or a bus tour but did not elaborate on what those experiences were or what was included. Without any history given about the island or recommendations on what to look for I felt no connection to the island upon arrival. I was able to find out some history from locals. For example on Inisheer there is a historic cemetery called “______”. In the cemetery there js a large stone building in the center that is sunken into the ground. There is a window in that building that local myth says if you can fit your body through the window you will find love soon. Information like this would have made me excited to visit this landmark and I feel would significantly improve your customers experience and knowledge of Inisheer before. My experience on this part of the tour was being boated over with a bunch of other tourists and being told to “go wild” by the tour guide. In regard to clarity I felt the website and Guide could have done a better job informing us of the schedule for the day. The website does detail all the stops on the tour and how long you have at each stop however it excludes how much travel time there is between Galway and Doolin and the length of the boat tour. Our guide did not go over the order or schedule for the day which left my group confused quite often. We did not know anything about the boat ride to Inisheer and he did not explain that the boat ride back would be longer and on a different boat to see the base of the cliffs. He did not tell us that we would go to the top of the cliffs after the boat ride so my group was surprised (pleasantly) that we were able to see the cliffs from on top as well. Additionally we did not know there would be a final stop on the road back from the cliffs to Galway (If I knew there would be an additional stop I would not have waited 10 min for the bathroom at the Cliffs and got to see more of the view and museum) Overall my experience would have improved 10 fold if I knew what to expect throughout the day. The Irish countryside is absolutely stunning and while this tour is a great way to get to these beautiful places it does not do a good job of setting expectations and educating its customers about Ireland’s beautiful and complex history. Below is the itinerary as I experienced it and I would recommend looking it though for a more in depth understanding of what you’re paying for: Meeting Point - Kinlay Hostel in Galway Travel to Doolin Pier (1 hour 45 min by Bus) Pass by: - Dunguaire Castle - Kinvara Harbour - Ballyvaughan - The Burren - Lisdoonvarna Doolin Pier (15 min) Ferry to Inisheer (15 min) Inisheer (Stop for 2 hours) Speak to Tour Guide for: - Rental Bikes - Horse and Buggy rides - Bus rides Boat Tour of Cliffs of Mohr (1 hours) - From Inisheer to Doolin Pier Doolin Pier to Cliffs of Mohr (10 min) The Cliffs of Mohr (Stop for 1 hour) Travel to A. E. O’Donahue’s (20 min) A. E. O’Donahue (20 min stop) - Bathroom Break - Drink stop Travel to Galway (1 hour 20 min)
Thank you.
All in all a great trip. Commentary was good and very informative. You drive through lots of villages to get to the ferry to aran island. We had a good day and definitely worth booking. We went with Wild Atlantic tours. No toilet on bus though.
Thank you.
Outstanding tour, our guide, Paul, was funny, energetic, personable and extremely knowledgeable about all of the locations on the tour. The scenery was spectacular. Would do it again without hesitation.
Thank you.
Very nice bus ride and opportunity to see the beautiful Irish countryside. Our stop to look at the Cliffs of Mohr was wonderful and I wish we had time on the itinerary to linger a bit longer. Regarding the trip to Inisheer… I’m not sure why our tour provider took us to this island and then allowed a 2 hour stay. This stop could have easily have been completed in half the time, at most. While peaceful and quaint, there was nearly nothing to see or do on this island. For the 2 hours we were allocated, our family would have much preferred a stop at Inishmore, which has much more to see and do.
Thank you.
I will recommend this trip to anyone going to Ireland. It was the perfect way to see both the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher. Once we got to the island, our tour guide had already arranged a tour on the island, so we didn't lose any time. I would go on any tour Phil is leading!!
Thank you.
The cliffs are incredible, but frankly I would recommend it to anyone just to have someone else drive you through those long and winding roads! It’s about 1.5 hours there, slightly longer back, and I would not want to drive those roads myself! There are food options on the island you visit as well as at the cliffs near the gift shop. Arrive at the boat at least 20-25 min early on your way to the cliffs to get a descent seat for viewing them.
Thank you.
A 10/10 experience. This was our favorite day on our recent trip to Ireland. We REALLY lucked out with beautiful weather. Our tour guide was Alan, who was fantastic! Funny, smart, knowledgeable, and a good driver (extra important on those windy, narrow roads) Alan was great: giving us history and information on our drive out to Doolin, where we caught the ferry over to Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands. On Inisheer, Alan prepped us with our various options. We opted for a horse-drawn tour by a local. We saw plenty of the island and had time to eat lunch before heading back to the pier. Next, we got on a boat for the tour of the Cliffs of Moher from the water. This was an INCREDIBLE way to see such a beautiful location. The water was pretty calm (all things considered), but be aware if you are prone to motion/sea sickness. Back on land, Alan drove us over to the official Cliffs of Moher park, where we had time to see the cliffs from land. Another great experience, with plenty of picturesque views. The only hiccups/things that could be improved: the handoff between bus > ferry > Inisheer > boat could've been smoother. We thought we'd be going from bus > ferry > Inisheer > boat as 1 group made up of everyone on the bus. Instead, we left the bus and then became part of a much larger mix of other bus tours, unaffiliated tourists, etc. The boat/ferry operators did a good job keeping us organized, but it was a little nerve-wracking to not be with Alan the entire time.
Thank you.
What a great decision to schedule with Wild Atlantic Way Day Tours-Galway! Alan was a great guide and bus driver: very knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and humorous. My family and I will never forget our day trip from Galway through the countryside with its farms, ancient castles, forests, stone walls, towns, and villages. The Cliffs of Moher, seen from both the top and below on a ferry, was unforgettable. As was our ferry trip to and hours spent on Inisheer, the closest of the Aran Islands. For the cost of this booking, it was all so worthwhile. Bravo, Alan and Wild Atlantic Way Day Tours!
Thank you.
The day trip was a great way to explore Cliffs of Moher. The drive was amazing and we really enjoyed exploring the island. Alan was our guide and he was absolutely terrific! He managed the time really well, gave us all the relevant information, and shared a lot of stories that helped us understand the history of the country and of the places we visited/towns passed through. Would highly recommend this tour!
Thank you.
A good long day that was definitely worth it. Phil did a great job narrating the tour. And taking the ferry from Doolin makes all the sense in the world. Great views of the Cliffs of Moher on the return ferry trip.
Thank you.
