Azerbeidzjaanse historici hebben documenten gevonden in Russische archieven die bevestigen dat er in 1846 een oliebron werd geboord in het Bibi-Heybat-veld bij Bakoe. Deze put kan dus worden beschouwd als de eerste ter wereld, aangezien hij 13 jaar voordat de commerciële olieproductie in de VS begon, verscheen.
Bibi-Heybet (tante van de achtersteven) is een 'pir' gelegen nabij de bergen van Bakoe te midden van een uitgestrekt kerkhof. Het graf van Bibi-Heybet, een van de familieleden van de profeet Mohammed, bevindt zich in een enorme moskee, die graag door moslims wordt bezocht. Bibi-Heybet staat bekend om haar wonderbaarlijke kracht om zieken te genezen. Veel van de moslims laten na om begraven te worden in de buurt van deze moskee.
Een moddervulkaan is een geologische formatie die bestaat uit een gat of holte in het aardoppervlak, of een kegelvormige verhoging met een krater, waaruit continu of periodiek modder en gassen uitbarsten. Dit type vulkaan komt vooral voor in oliehoudende en vulkanische gebieden.
Gobustan is een van 's werelds beroemdste historische en archeologische reservaten, een openluchtmuseum met een enorme verzameling historische voorwerpen van onschatbare waarde
"Ateshgah" Vuuraanbidderstempel - de eerste structuren van de Ateshgah-tempel dateren uit de tweede en derde eeuw. In die tijd verspreidde het zoroastrisme zich in Azerbeidzjan en begonnen zoroastrische tempels in de regio's te worden gebouwd. Ateshgah-tempel in Surakhani functioneerde tot VII eeuw. Het is bekend dat de islam in de VIIe eeuw in Azerbeidzjan werd aangenomen.
Yanardag is een van de meest verbazingwekkende natuurlijke attracties van het schiereiland Absheron. Het is een vlammende berghelling die niet kan worden gedoofd door regen of zand en die al duizenden jaren brandt. Het angstaanjagende maar fascinerende vurige landschap is eigenlijk heel eenvoudig te verklaren: uit de bovenste bodemlagen komt aardgas vrij, dat bij contact met zuurstof in vlammen verandert.

This tour hits all of the highlights and was the perfect amount of time at each stop. I was thoroughly impressed. You would be SO LUCKY if you have Riad as your guide. 1) he’s extremely knowledgeable, 2) he’s on top of time, 3) you can tell from the beginning he’s passionate and wants to make sure you learn about the subject matter. You will leave with a greater appreciation of Azerbaijani history. 10/10 this company is legit.
Our guide Elvin was great and patient and we ended up seeing most of the important things around baku. Only thing was we were stuck in traffic for a long time because of formula 1.
We really enjoyed this tour and had a great day discovering Azerbaijan. Our guide, Riad, was definitely the highlight. He is incredibly knowledgeable, cultured, and genuinely passionate about sharing his knowledge. What made the experience especially special for us as Algerians was how naturally he connected with us and found similarities between our cultures. His stories and explanations made every place we visited much more interesting. Gobustan and the mud volcanoes were fascinating and definitely among the memorable experiences of our trip.
