This was a challenging hike but definitely worth the effort! The views on the way are breathtaking and desolation valley was a surreal landscape with hot springs scattered around creating wild colors of rock, water, and moss. Junior was a fantastic guide who let our group set the pace. We had one slower hiker in the group and he bounced back and forth, very relaxed and chatting, never trying to rush her. One of the best hikes we’ve ever done - highly recommend!
This was the best tour of the cruise, probably my favorite thing I’ve EVER done in the Caribbean. Every detail was incredible. Hardest hike of my life, so worth it! My son age 12 did it easily. Made it back in time for the cruise departing!
We have had the privilege to have been on several guiding hiking tours. Junior is by far the best guide we have experienced to date. His knowledge of the trail, topography, and local fauna was incredible and his jovial nature, wit, and great humor made this strenuous hike a fun and memorable experience! If you have the opportunity to hike in Dominica, do not hesitate to ask for Junior as your guide. You won’t be disappointed
We booked the Boiling Lake hike during our time in Dominica and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Junior picked us up from Fort Young Hotel in the morning and immediately made us feel welcome. He was friendly, funny, warm, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about Dominica. He drove us to Titou Gorge where we met our hiking guide, Jahel, who would lead our small group of four on the trek to Boiling Lake. The hike itself is definitely very challenging, but absolutely worth it. I wore trekking sandals and some of the steps were extremely high, so it took a lot of focus in places. Future hikers should come prepared and expect a proper trek rather than a casual walk. Jahel was brilliant throughout the entire experience — funny, relaxed and very knowledgeable. Along the route he pointed out different trees, birds and details about the rainforest that we would otherwise have completely missed. He also constantly checked that everyone was okay and helped on slippery sections, which really added to the sense of safety and support during the tougher parts of the hike. The scenery throughout the day was incredible. Walking through the rainforest hearing the birds, seeing the landscape constantly change, and finally reaching the first dramatic view of the Boiling Lake was unforgettable. On the way back we stopped to soak in a hot spring, which felt amazing after the long hike, before finishing the experience with a refreshing swim through Titou Gorge. It genuinely felt like several amazing experiences rolled into one day. Because the group was only four people, the whole day felt personal, relaxed and enjoyable despite the challenge. There was a great balance between the physical hike, learning about Dominica and simply taking in the surroundings. If you are reasonably fit and prepared for a demanding hike, I would absolutely recommend this experience. It was one of the highlights of our time in Dominica and Junior and Jahel made it even more special.
The hike to Boiling Lake was amazing! The scenery is magnificent, and the isolation and immersion in the landscape was magnificent. Make sure to bring a rain jacket, and waterproof anything you don't want to get wet; it rained (sometimes torrentially) for much of the hike, but for me that just added to the experience! Also, it is a very rugged trail, so absolutely make sure you have good, solid footwear that you don't mind getting wet. Junior, our guide, was very friendly, humorous, and patient. I can't recommend him enough!
Junior was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable about Dominica and the trail and quite personable. We did the boiling lake hike. It’s a challenging 6hr round trip hike. He safely guided the team through it. I would recommend Junior as a guide.
The Boiling Lake hike was an incredible experience. I feel lucky to have had Junior as a guide. He was so knowledgeable about Dominica, the local plants and wildlife, and was just an all around fun and helpful guy to hike with. The hike itself is very challenging - slippery, very steep in spots, and many ups and downs - but it is definitely worth it to see all of the different forests, the views into the valley and of course the Boiling Lake. If you plan to do the hike I would highly recommend booking with Junior.
Junior was a fantastic guide and was very patient with me - I could not go nearly as fast as him and the other people in our group who were younger than me. I turned back at the “midpoint” - at the peak halfway to the boiling lake itself. I was afraid of getting to the lake but then not being able to scale the peak again to get back. It’s a great hike but if you cannot do 30-40 minutes of continuous climb up tall steps (I’m 6’3” and some of them were thigh-high) you will struggle to complete it.
The hike was no joke! Even as experienced hikers having done Havasupai and Kilimanjaro, our legs definitely felt it by the end. But it was absolutely well worth it and Junior was fantastic. We ended up with folks at all different speeds (we were the slowest) and one guy doing drone videos, and Junior accommodated everyone and he ended up doing the hike twice to make sure no one felt rushed and no one felt held back. Great coordination on his part. We had a great time and felt well looked after on the muddy and tricky parts. Got to enjoy swimming in the hot waterfalls and then Titou Gorge (wish I had packed my waterproof camera for that). It was very cold but felt good after the long hike. Junior is an awesome guide - highly recommend! Great communication leading up to the trip so we knew what to expect.
Incredible experience, we take full eyes all along the walk. Junior is an exceptional guide, he will accompany you safely and at your own pace. The scenery is beautiful.#Wouaaah
