Ella is een beroemd toeristisch dorpsparadijs in de centrale hooglanden van Sri Lanka. Als je van groen houdt, is Ella natuurlijk een plek om te bezoeken. Ella Rock is een van de plaatsen die het bewijst. Trekkers zouden de plaats geweldig vinden. Het is een beetje vermoeiend om te wandelen. Maar het is zeker de moeite waard. Als je eenmaal op de top bent, zul je je realiseren waarom we dat hebben gezegd. De panoramische uitzichten die het biedt met mist en wolken die het gebied bedekken, vooral in de vroege ochtenden en de late avonden zijn iets waar je getuige van moet zijn en dat voldoende zou zijn om te zeggen dat je Ella hebt bezocht. De totale tijd om op en neer te klimmen is 4 uur. Ja, klinkt als een lange reis. Maar de weg daarheen is vol diversiteit. Als je vanaf het treinstation van Ella begint, zou je genieten van de treinwandeling en zodra je begint te klimmen, passeer je een waterval, het rubberboombos en theeplantages. Op een regenachtige dag kan het glad zijn, dus wees voorzichtig met wat je draagt voor de reis. Draag iets geschikt voor een wandeling en tegen het einde van de wandeling, nog steeds beheersbaar.
Deze waterval is ongeveer 25 m hoog en stroomt uit een ovaal gevormde concave rots. Tijdens het lokale natte seizoen verandert de waterval in wat wordt gezegd dat het lijkt op een areca-bloem met verwelkende bloemblaadjes. Maar dit is niet het geval in het droge seizoen, waar de waterstroom dramatisch vermindert. De Nine Arch Bridge, ook wel de Bridge in the Sky genoemd, is een brug in Sri Lanka. Het is een van de beste voorbeelden van spoorwegbouw uit het koloniale tijdperk in het land. De constructie van de brug wordt over het algemeen toegeschreven aan een lokale Ceylonese bouwer, PK Appuhami, in overleg met Britse ingenieurs. De hoofdontwerper en projectmanager van het project 'upcountry spoorlijn van Ceylon' was DJ Wimalasurendra, een vooraanstaande Ceylonese ingenieur en uitvinder. De ontwerper van het viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood van Railway Construction Department van Ceylon Government Railway. Het rapport uit 1923 met de titel "Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon", gepubliceerd door de Engineering Association of Ceylon, bevat details van alle documenten, inclusief de plannen en tekeningen. Het treinstation van Demodara is het op twee na laatste station op de hoofdlijn en ligt op 277,71 km (172,56 mijl) van Colombo. Het ligt 912,5 m (2994 ft) boven zeeniveau en 8 km (5,0 mijl) van Badulla, de hoofdstad van de provincie Uva. Alle treinen die op de hoofdlijn rijden, inclusief de sneltreinen Podi Menike en Udarata Menike, stoppen bij het station. Het station valt vooral op door de spiraalvormige spoorlijn op deze locatie, in de volksmond bekend als de 'Demodara Loop'. De spoorlijn gaat onder zichzelf door, gaat rond de lus en komt uit een tunnel die direct onder het Demodara-treinstation loopt. De spoorlus is ongeveer 900 meter lang en de tunnel is 320 meter lang. Het wordt beschouwd als de enige lus ter wereld met een treinstation dat zich precies boven een tunnel met een spiraalvormige lus bevindt. Tijdens de aanleg van de spooruitbreiding naar Badulla ontdekten de ingenieurs en landmeters dat de hoogte tussen de heuvels bij Demodara te groot was om het spoor te laten vervallen.

This is a great way to see the main sights of Ella. Really enjoyed this all inclusive excursion and we were the only people, which meant that we could take everything at our own pace. Vimukthi was a great guide, got us some great pictures and made sure that we were stood in the best spots. He also made sure that we always had enough water. Ella rock is quite steep to climb but it is worth it when you get to the top! Would definitely recommend this trip.
