Fez naar Volubilis en Meknes dagtrip

Onze Fes to Volubilis excursie start u op bij uw hotel of riad in Fez, de tijd die voor u geschikt zou zijn. voor een rit van 1 uur westwaarts naar de keizerlijke stad Meknes. Wanneer u over de vlakte rijdt, ziet u uitgestrekte akkers met wijngaarden die wijn van goede kwaliteit produceren, waarvan een groot deel naar Frankrijk wordt geëxporteerd. Je hebt maximaal drie uur in Meknes om de stad te verkennen, inclusief de uitgestrekte souks, de fascinerende historische locaties en om te lunchen. Moulay Ismail maakte Meknes de hoofdstad van Marokko tijdens zijn bewind rond 1700; zijn mausoleum en de Rouah, zijn stallen voor meer dan 12.000 paarden, samen met Place el-Hedim, het centrale voetgangersplein in de medina, zijn zeker een bezoek waard. De souks van Meknes zijn verfrissend ruim in vergelijking met Fez, waardoor de stad een ontspannende plek is om te verkennen.

Meknes naar Moulay Idriss Na de lunch brengt onze reis u 30 km noordwaarts naar de heuvelachtige nederzetting Moulay Idriss. De stad is één van de belangrijkste spirituele plaatsen van het land en een bedevaartsoord omdat het de plaats is van het graf van Moulay Idriss, een prominente Marokkaanse heilige in de late 8e eeuw en een achterkleinzoon van de profeet Mohammed. De stad wordt vaak omzeild door niet-islamitische toeristen, wier kortste ontmoeting vaak een foto is die vanuit het nabijgelegen Volubilis is genomen. Er is beperkte toegang tot het groen betegelde heiligdom, maar de talloze smalle straatjes die leiden naar uitkijkpunten voor uitzicht over de vallei richting Volubilis zijn zeker een korte stop waard. Moulay Idriss naar Volubilis en Fez Na Moulay Idriss te hebben verlaten voor de korte 4 km lange rit naar het Werelderfgoed Volubilis, zijn er een aantal uitkijkpunten om foto's van de stad te maken. Volubilis is de site van de grootste en best bewaarde Romeinse ruïnes in Marokko, vooral bekend om zijn prachtige mozaïekvloeren

Excellent experience; we took a day trip from Fez to Volubilis, Moulay Idriss, and in the afternoon to Meknès. Moustapha is a great professional, a very good driver, attentive and kind; we would definitely do it again!

Great! You get to tailor the experience to yourself, do what you want and leave when you want. So much better than a big group tour.
Firstly - great job Aziz - you were a great driver and very nice company. Although a little more money than the equivalent group tours to Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes, having a private tour for just the 3 of us was great as it allowed us to spend as long or as little time at each stop as we wanted and then move on. In the end the trip took just short of 8 hours. We went to Volubilis first (about 1.5 hour drive) which was fascinating and we took a good long time to look around it all (we didn't bother with a guide but I had downloaded info on it - note a lot of the boards by key buildings giving information have very little info or have been defaced). Then we went to Moulay Idriss which looks much better from a distance - once you're in it it's not much to speak of at all. We just took a few photos from a view point and then asked Aziz to go straight to Meknes. In Meknes we looked around the small medina, had a little wander around the main square, (it was raining so it didn't look it's best I'm sure) had a spot of lunch and then went to the famous mausoleum which opened at 3pm. This was flashy and shiny but not very characterful or interesting at all and it's really done in 10 minutes - To me it was not worth the trip there unless you've religious reasons to go. Then back to Fes. Our driver Aziz was fantastic - we felt really safe with him driving and he took no risks. He was at the pick up point (the blue gate) bang on time. On the road he told us about a few noteworthy things (remember he is not a guide) and he was a very pleasant, chilled chap to talk to with good English. We were really pleased that he was our driver. I would recommend the trip to anyone - it was really good value for the 3 of us and it gave us the freedom we wanted. But if a friend asked for advice I would tell them to only bother going to Volubulis and then return back to Fes!

Volubilis is interesting but there are no signs if you plan to do it by yourself. Meknes has a very small medina and a tomb. Overall, not a very big attraction.
