Je begint je stadstour door Addis Abeba met het Nationaal Museum van Ethiopië. Dit is een van de beste musea in kwaliteit en diversiteit van de tentoonstellingen. Archeologische tentoonstellingen omvatten het 3,5 miljoen jaar oude fossiel van Lucy (of Dinkinesh – ‘gij zijt wonderbaarlijk’- in de inheemse taal), een hominoïde vrouw van de soort Australopithecus Afarensis. De ontdekking van Lucy’s fossiel in 1974 dwong tot een complete heroverweging van de menselijke genealogie, op voorwaarde dat onze voorouders 2,5 miljoen jaar eerder liepen dan werd verondersteld. Het Nationaal Museum bevat ook vele prachtige artefacten die dateren uit de pre-Axumite beschaving.
Het is de belangrijkste kerk in Ethiopië in deze kerk is er een mausoleum van de laatste keizer van Ethiopië “Haile Selassie “ en zijn vrouw ook Begraven daar krijgt u ook een kans om religieuze Ceremonies bij te wonen op hetzelfde moment
We rijden bergopwaarts naar Entoto, dat ooit het permanente kamp van Keizer Minilik II was. Rijdend de heuvel is er een aanzienlijke daling van de hoogte en de lucht is gevuld met de geur van de Eucalyptusbomen die het gebied bedekken. Vanaf de top is er een panoramisch uitzicht over de hoofdstad en het omliggende platteland.
Na de lunch vervolgt de stadstour door Addis Abeba met een bezoek aan Merkato, de grootste openluchtmarkt van Afrika, waar bijna alle mogelijke waren te koop zijn.
Tiglachin Memorial is een gedenkteken voor Ethiopische en Cubaanse soldaten die betrokken waren bij de Ogadenoorlog. Het werd gebouwd onder Mengistu Haile Mariam op Churchill Avenue in Addis Abeba.
Stap in de rijke erfenis van Tomoca Coffee, opgericht in 1953 als Ethiopië's pionier in het branden van de beste koffiebonen uit de hooglanden van Kaffa, de geboorteplaats van koffie. We had a day in Addis Ababa and wanted to experience the local sights and culture. Eyob was an excellent guide for the day. Conveniently, we were collected and dropped off at our hotel by Eyob and his driver. The itinerary sampled all aspects of the city, including the amazing market, various museums (Eyob explained the exhibits to us) and local cuisine lunch at the oldest traditional restaurant in Addis Ababa. We also experienced the superb coffee at a local coffee shop, Ethiopia being the home of coffee. A great day out!

I have a slightly funny story with Eyob - we first connected online about a year and a half ago, and only now I finally made it to Addis Ababa. And… it was absolutely the right call. Eyob is an outstanding guy who genuinely knows and loves his country. He goes out of his way to make things work for you - suggesting itineraries, helping with accommodation, and structuring your time so efficiently that you’re back at the airport two hours before departure, while still exploring the surroundings just a few hours earlier. He puts in real effort. He knows what’s worth seeing and what can be skipped. Conversations with him are easy and engaging, and at the same time he adds just enough context and facts so you actually understand what’s happening around you. One of the best fixers I’ve worked with and traveled with. Thanks to him, I regret only one thing - that my time in Ethiopia was so short. And also thanks to him, I know I’ll be back. I had a great experience with Eyob Tesfaye during my city tour in Addis Ababa. He’s a really cool and easygoing person, which made the whole day enjoyable. What I liked the most is that he actually studied tourism and history, so he really knows what he’s talking about. I’m honestly not a big fan of museums or history, but he made it interesting and fun. The way he explains things and tells stories keeps you engaged and not bored at all.
