Nederlandse Windmolens & Polderwandeling

Dit is de enige Nederlandse landschapswandeling in de omgeving van Leiden, die ook dicht bij de Hollandse bloemenvelden ligt. Deze tour is ook te combineren met een bezoek aan de Nederlandse bloemenvelden in de buurt van Leiden (in de auto)

Tijdens deze wandeling vergeten we niet een paar oude windmolens van buitenaf te bezoeken, die werden gebruikt om water op te pompen om land aan te winnen. Enkele daarvan zijn de Broekdijkmolen en de Boterhuismolen. Het werk van de windmolens zorgde ervoor dat de Holland niet werd overspoeld met zeewater. Deze oude techniek is heel eenvoudig aan te leren als je eenmaal ziet hoe een windmolen werkt. Ook komen we langs een golfbaan waar natuurschoon in overvloed te zien is.
Dit is ook een van de bezienswaardigheden die we tegenkomen tijdens onze rondreis. De molen van de Leidse stad, gelegen aan de rand van de stad, werd ook gebruikt om water op te pompen en land aan te winnen. Ook werd het in een andere fase gebruikt om graan van te maken. We bezoeken deze windmolen ook van buitenaf en brengen ongeveer 10-15 minuten door.
Aan het begin van deze wandeltocht lopen we richting rivier de Zijl door een rustige buurt. Tijdens dit onderdeel zie je de architectuur van typisch Nederlandse huizen en appartementen. De rivier de Zijl is een middelgrote rivier die door Zuid- en West-Holland door de Polders stroomt. Het heeft een schilderachtig landschap waar mensen het hele jaar van kunnen genieten. We lopen langs deze rivier richting de polders en de molens waar we wat foto's zullen maken.
De wandeling eindigt met een bezoek aan de kinderboerderij in het merengebied. Hier zie je meer boerderijdieren die je in je thuisland niet ziet. De gids brengt je uiteindelijk naar het startpunt waar je met de bus of eigen vervoer terugkeert. Let op: de wandeltocht in de Merenwijk in Leiden is een van de unieke wandeltochten in Nederland, die alleen Vakantie in Holland aanbiedt.
Molen Broekdijk is ook een pittoreske molen in de Leidse wijk Merenwijk. Het is ook een windmolen die we van buitenaf gaan bezoeken en ook krijg je uitleg hoe deze in de vroegere eeuwen werkte. Molen Broekdijk ligt naast een prachtige golfbaan en tevens naast de Broekpolder. We zullen beide attracties ook zien.

Highly recommend this tour for nature and animal lovers. PJ is local to the area and provided some great background on the polders. He even brought a light breakfast to enjoy on our walk. Broekdijkmolen and the children's farm (which is surprisingly large, basically a zoo) were highlights.
Great walk in the park with a knowledgeable guide. Enjoyable easy pace well worth the time an effort. It was money and time well spent.

We enjoyed this walking tour of a calm lakeland area near Leiden which we would otherwise not have seen. PJ's communication before hand was very good, giving us clear instructions of how to get to the meeting point. Don't let the fact you have to travel to the start point put you off. It was an easy bus ride away and you just need to tap your credit/debit card at the start and end of the journey to pay for it. PJ explained very well to us how the windmills had worked in reclaiming the polder land. We were also able to gain a bit of an insight into the Dutch way of life. PJ also gave us some light refreshments. The walk was, of course, very flat and would be suitable for all ages. We really enjoyed the tour.

Pj is an affable and informative guide who knows the land and its history quite well. The land we walked was quite scenic, and I came away with a full understanding of how the polders came about and their importance today. The break for a cup of tea as well timed also. Recommend!

We had a very pleasant walk in the good company of our guide PJ. We walked along a river, saw a mill and a farm. We had explanations about the Netherlands and our environment (the polders and others). In conclusion, a soothing and instructive walk.

It was an amazing walk in the evening with the amazing guide Punartha who was very friendly and gave us lot of explanations.
