Dagtocht van Addis Abeba naar het Wenchi-kratermeer

Op 3 uur rijden van de hoofdstad van Addis Abeba, Wenchi - gelegen aan de voet van een uitgedoofde vulkaan, is de prachtige erfenis van een ooit krachtige vulkaan die uitbarst in de Tertiaire periode van het Cenozoïcum. De vulkaan die ongeveer 1000 jaar geleden uitbarstte, liet een asymmetrische caldera van rotsen achter die nu bedekt is met weelderige groene vegetatie. De hele krater bevat een groot meer met kleine eilanden, hete minerale bronnen, watervallen en prachtige valleien en landbouwgronden. Een oud klooster met een kerk die op een van de eilanden in het meer is geplaatst, maakt de plek ook aantrekkelijker en betoverender. Het Wenchi-kratermeer is een stukje paradijs op aarde vanwege het adembenemende landschap en de prachtige natuurgebieden. De plaats die ooit de krachtigste vulkanen had, is nu gezegend met onder meer veel natuurlijke rijkdommen, warmwaterbronnen en watervallen. Belangrijke activiteiten zijn paardrijden, peddelen met lokale boten, wandelen / wandelen, zwemmen in de natuurlijke warmwaterbron en kamperen.

Maak een dagtocht naar het noordelijke kratermeer Wenchi. Hier maken we een 5-6 uur durende wandeling (of paardrijtocht) door het prachtige landschap. Je loopt naar het kratermeer voordat je het meer per boot oversteekt. Op een klein eiland bezoeken we een klooster en een kerk. Vanaf de andere kant van het meer beginnen we onze weg terug door een prachtige groene vallei met talloze heldere waterbronnen en kleine stroompjes. De route voert ons langs maïsmolens die aangedreven worden door water en die nog steeds worden gebruikt voor de verwerking van teff, een lokale graansoort. In de late namiddag keren we terug naar Addis Abeba.
Ambo (Oromo: Amboo) is een stad in west-centraal Ethiopië. Gelegen in de West Shewa Zone van de regio Oromia, ten westen van Addis Abeba. En het is de hoofdstad van de West Shewa-zone.[1] Deze stad heeft een breedte- en lengtegraad van 8°59′N 37°51′E en een hoogte van 2.101 meter. Ambo staat bekend om zijn mineraalwater, dat buiten de stad wordt gebotteld; het is naar verluidt het populairste merk in Ethiopië. Nabijgelegen bezienswaardigheden zijn onder meer Mount Wenchi in het zuiden met zijn kratermeer, en de Guder- en Huluka-watervallen. Ambo is ook de locatie van een onderzoeksstation van het Ethiopische Instituut voor Landbouwonderzoek; Dit station, opgericht in 1977, herbergt onderzoek naar de bescherming van belangrijke gewassen in Ethiopië. De marktdag van de stad is zaterdag.

Traveling alone can sometimes feel intimidating, but this tour made me feel comfortable from the moment it started. The entire trip was well organized, and everything ran on time. Wenchi Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in Ethiopia. The scenery is breathtaking, with lush green hills, peaceful lake views, and fresh mountain air. Our guide was outstanding. He was knowledgeable about the history, culture, and natural beauty of the area, and he explained everything with enthusiasm. He was also very patient, making sure everyone was comfortable and never felt rushed. As a solo traveler, I appreciated how welcoming and friendly he was. He made the experience enjoyable and ensured I always felt included. The transportation was comfortable, and the itinerary gave us enough time to enjoy the lake, take photos, and appreciate the peaceful surroundings. The hike and optional boat ride made the experience even more memorable. A few of my friends and I booked the Day Trip from Addis Ababa to Wenchi Crater Lake with Danakil Depression Tours, and it was the perfect break from the city.
