Dar es Salaam (wat 'plaats van vrede' betekent) is de grootste stad en voormalige hoofdstad van Tanzania. Aan de Swahili-kust is Dar es-Salaam een belangrijk economisch centrum en een van de snelst groeiende steden ter wereld.

Onze tour begint op de Kariakoo-markt. De geschiedenis van deze markt gaat terug tot 1916. Nadat de Britten Dar es Salaam hadden veroverd op de Duitsers tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog, bouwden ze een depot voor hun korpsen dat niet langer nodig was, de gouverneur stond toe dat het gebouw als markt werd gebruikt. de naam "Carrier Corps Market" en Swahili-spreker spreken de naam uit als "Kariakoo". En zo is het tot op de dag van vandaag bekend.
Na de Kariakoo-markt passeer je het Uhuru-fakkelmonument in het Mnazi Mmoja-gebied, het oude Boma van Dar es Salaam, waarna je de rooms-katholieke kathedraal met uitzicht op de haven bereikt. St. Joseph is de eerste rooms-katholieke kathedraal op het vasteland van Tanzania. Het hoofdgebouw nam vijf jaar in beslag, 1897-1902, en werd ingewijd op 15 oktober 1908. Het is artistiek gebouwd in gotische stijl met een spits met dakspanen, een gewelfd interieur en gebeeldhouwd reliëf boven het hoofdaltaar. Het interieur heeft nog steeds de originele Duitse inscripties.
Na de katholieke kathedraal gaat u naar de Lutherse kathedraal en vervolgens naar het Askari-monument. Het Askari-monument werd gebouwd door de Britse koloniale regering ter vervanging van een ander standbeeld dat in 1911 door de Duitse koloniale regering was gemonteerd ter nagedachtenis aan majoor Herman Von Wissmann, de eerste gouverneur van Duits Oost-Afrika, benoemd in 1895. de Britten slopen het in 1916 na de nederlaag van Duitsland en terugtrekken tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Museum and House of Culture (MHC) is het eerste nationale museum dat in 1937 in Tanzania werd opgericht en op 7 december 1940 voor het publiek werd geopend. Aanvankelijk stond het bekend als King George V Memorial Museum, naar koning George V van Groot-Brittannië die stierf in 1936. In 1962 werd de naam veranderd in het Nationaal Museum.
Op weg naar de vismarkt passeer je het Tanzania State House (fotograferen is niet toegestaan). Ga naar de vismarkt van Kivukoni, hier zie je vissers hun vangst verkopen aan restauranthouders en huisvrouwen die kwamen kopen. De markt is verdeeld in twee hoofdgedeelten, bestaande uit acht zones, waarvan er één de veiling is. In andere secties wordt vis schoongemaakt, gekookt en tegen hoge prijzen doorverkocht.
Na het bezoek aan de vismarkt heeft u een lunchpauze (u betaalt rechtstreeks aan het hotel), daarna neemt u het openbaar vervoer van Kivukoni naar Marokko, van daaruit neemt u de tuk-tuk (Rick Shaw) naar het Dorpsmuseum. Het Dorpsmuseum, of in de volksmond "Kijiji cha Makumbusho" (Swahili voor "Dorpmuseum") bevindt zich langs Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road in Kijitonyama. Het museum beschikt over ongeveer twintig traditionele huizen die de meer dan 120 etnische groepen in Tanzania vertegenwoordigen. De woningen bestaan uit gemeubileerde hutten, veehokken en ontmoetingsplekken. Bezoekers mogen de huizen betreden. Na een rondleiding door het museum krijgt u de kans om traditionele ngoma(dans)sessies bij te wonen die wij voor u hebben georganiseerd.
Na het dorpsmuseum zullen we onze tour voltooien door een bezoek aan de Mwenge houtsnijdersmarkt. Hier zie je verschillende houtsnijderproducten gemaakt van de beroemde Afrikaanse zwarte boom (Ebony Tree). Later zal uw chauffeur u afzetten bij uw hotel.

The driver pick up at the hotel was over 1.5 hours late. At the minimum, he should have called the front desk the reason for his delay, such as, traffic, car problems, an accident, etc. There was no communication on the morning of the pick up and I was left at the hotel lobby wondering whether, I have been scammed.
Thank you Mr. Chungsen for taking your time for writing review for us. We will take this as a challenge in our industry as every one deserve best service even sometimes can be affected by weather or something else which is out of our control. I contacted front desk of your hotel to let you know that our driver/guide they are on the way but they will delay because of ground situation like road construction going on around the city and rain in some area of the city which cause traffic to reach on your hotel side. As you know your tour was supposed to be done on April 08 and instead you requested to postpone it to April 09. We accepted your requested without any charges and we offered free pick up from your hotel instead of picking you at ferry ticket office. When you meet your drive he apologies to you for delay and told you they will compensate your time but you told is ok no problem since service return smoothly again. Regarding front desk told you accident on way car broken down. Was not true as you saw our vehicle good condition with E registration plate. I also shocked why you was feeling scammed while lobby front desk explaining to you everything. After finishing the tour guide was very happy after telling them you will write good review for him. Also they say you enjoyed your lunch with Impala meat! 😋 We promise you more than best service for next destination. Asante sana na Karibu tena!
This private tour was excellent! From the time I booked the excursion Mansoor was always in contact with me as to what time he would be at the cruise ship to pick us up. He always had cold water available his mini van was in excellent condition and clean. We followed the itinerary that they suggested to see the most important things. The fish market was very interesting on how fish was sold, cleaned and taken to market. The local village museum was interesting on how they lived in the earlier days. We saw both christian churches which was very nice. I can’t say enough positive things about Mansoor and how he took care of us the whole day!

We booked the city tour for our first day in Tanzania without knowing what to expect in Dar es Salaam. Mansoor Mohamed and Sylvester picked us up at the hotel, which was a bit out of town, and on the way into the city, we heard a lot from Sylvester about the history of the city and the current situation. We had a full schedule, but the two of them still accommodated our wishes. We spontaneously walked through a very busy business district. Sylvester was very thoughtful and introduced us to the country's specialties and the mentality of the residents. Two church visits, a visit to the fish market and two museums were still on the agenda. We took our time at the fish market and then went first to the Tanzanian National Museum, where we learned a lot thanks to Sylvester's extensive knowledge and an interesting discussion developed about the exhibits. Afterwards we visited the Village Museum with the various traditional village houses. Here, too, Sylvester knew how to answer every question. At the end of the museum visit, there was the opportunity to see a traditional dance and music performance. It was nice that we had lunch together and then had a coffee to round off the day. Mansoor Mohamed and Sylvester speak English at a very high level. Sylvester is a very well-read and considerate guide, Mansoor Mohamed is an excellent driver. Thank you.

Mansoor ( driver ) and Jibu ( tour guide ) are the best . They are very patient . Give us time to do all the things we need to see . Jibu is very knowledgeable about Tanzania . For a very short period of time he was able to explain to us the important history , current events , Tanzanian culture introduce us to Tanzanian food while we see all the places that was in the itinerary. This duo team are excellent . I wish I have more time to do a safari tour with this 2 guys .
