Volubilis is de indrukwekkende overblijfselen van een voormalige Romeinse stad gebouwd op een eerdere Punisch-Berberse nederzetting die ooit diende als hoofdstad van het Koninkrijk Mauretania. Het ligt in de vruchtbare Saïss-vlakte bij de rivier de Rhoumane aan de rand van Meknes en is vandaag de dag een van de belangrijkste archeologische sites van Marokko en staat trots op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO.
Moulay Idriss Zerhoun staat bekend als de rustplaats van Idris I, de eerste grote islamitische heerser van Marokko en de stichter van de Idrisidendynastie. De stad ontleent zijn naam aan hem en blijft een van de meest spiritueel belangrijke sites in het land.
Meknes is een historische stad in het noorden van Marokko, bekend om zijn keizerlijke erfgoed. De meest iconische bezienswaardigheid, Bab Mansour, is een monumentale poort versierd met bogen en ingewikkelde mozaïeken, die de ingang van de voormalige keizerlijke stad markeert. Vlakbij staat het Mausoleum van Sultan Moulay Ismail – de 17e-eeuwse heerser die Meknes in zijn hoofdstad transformeerde – met serene binnenplaatsen, elegante bogen en rustige fonteinen.

Thami is a great driver. He brought us everywere we asked him, leaving us alone to visit the places for all the time we needed. He also showed us some beautiful hidden views of the amazing landscape surrounding Volubilis and Moulay Driss. Highly recommended!
This was day number 5 with Kader, Wednesday 31st August 2022. We left Fes mid morning and made our way through the wheat country to the ancient Roman Ruins at Voulibous. Kader gave me a deep insight into the history of Voulibous whist we were traveling. Once there, it was an amazing sight. We walked most of the 45 hectare site plus the recently built museum. Hot work but well worth the tour. Thanks Kader, We then made our way on the Meknes to view the city, & old town. To my fellow travellers, this man Kader is the best tour guide in the business here in Morocco. Make sure he leads you on tours when visiting
Thami and the car was really great and he can speak French pretty well. He have a real sens of customer support. We recommend Thami for any excursions in Morocco
We had a wonderful day with Medhi! The drive was a smooth trip through the beautiful countryside. Volubilis and Moulay Idriss were a pleasure to see, and then the kefta in Moulay Idriss was one of the culinary highlights in Morocco! As we had some extra time since we asked to drive through Meknes instead of stopping at the Medina, we got to see a new perspective on Fes and a wonderful trip to the pottery factory. The car was spotless and the trip was a sublime day in the Moroccan summer.
Loved our day out from Fez to Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes, an excellent trip made all the better for having such a fantastic driver and guide, Thami; he really made our day - very knowledgeable, very helpful, he couldn’t have done more for us. I’d definitely recommend this trip, really good value for money too.
It was our first time in Fes and Thami made us feel comfortable and welcome. He met us at our Riad and kept us engaged all day. He was friendly and was able to speak both English and French well. He also able to hook us up with a wonderful walking tour of the Médina the next day.
