Van oktober 2025 tot april 2026 vindt er essentieel metselwerk plaats aan de voor- en westzijde van Leeds Castle, met steigers op hun plaats. Gelegen in Kent, 'The Garden of England', ligt Leeds Castle, een prachtig middeleeuws kasteel dat vaak wordt aangeduid als 'het mooiste kasteel ter wereld'. Met 500 hectare aan aangelegd parklandschap om te verkennen en onberispelijk onderhouden tuinen om van te genieten, is het gemakkelijk te zien waarom dit prachtige kasteel een favoriete kasteel was van koning Hendrik VIII, die het cadeau schonk aan zijn eerste vrouw, Catharina van Aragon. In zijn 900-jarige geschiedenis heeft het kasteel niet minder dan zes koninginnen huisvest en vele functies vervuld, waaronder het optreden als garnizoen, gevangenis en de statige privéwoning van de meest recente eigenaren. Kathedraal van Canterbury, aangewezen als UNESCO werelderfgoed, is zowel een serene plaats van heiligheid als een prachtige toeristische bestemming. Als de kathedraal van de aartsbisschop, de geestelijk leider van de kerk van Engeland, heeft Canterbury een speciale plaats in de Britse geschiedenis. Dover Castle is een middeleeuws kasteel in Dover, Kent, Engeland. Het werd gesticht in de 11e eeuw en is beschreven als de "Sleutel tot Engeland" vanwege zijn defensieve betekenis doorheen de geschiedenis. Het is het grootste kasteel in Engeland.
De White Cliffs of Dover zweven 350 meter boven de golven van het Engelse Kanaal en zijn een onmiddellijk herkenbaar herkenningspunt van Groot-Brittannië. Van Caesar tot Shakespeare, sommige van de belangrijkste figuren van de geschiedenis erkenden de torenhoge symboliek van de kliffen. Traditioneel de site waar de Britse royalty buitenlandse bezoekers zou verwelkomen, dienden de kliffen als een intimiderende herinnering aan het onvervreemdbare gevoel van onafhankelijkheid van Groot-Brittannië.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience going to Leeds Castle, White Cliffs of Dover and Canterbury Cathedral today. Manon was an exceptionally knowledgeable guide, extremely friendly and she knew all the best spots for great pictures (she even took on the task of Volunteer Photographer). We really feel this experience was more than worth the price we paid. Also, I feel the need to mention our driver, Greg, as he expertly navigated the bus while we all took in the sites.
Our tour was BEYOND expectations and simply wonderful. Our tour guide, Phil, was exceptional and really deserves a raise!! His comments were insightful and personal. I appreciated his passion for history and deep love for his home country. Not to mention, he greeted each of us individually on the bus and encouraged us to ask questions along the way. He spoke in a clear and engaging way and never tired when talking to us during the entire bus ride there and back! Very impressive. Additionally, our driver, Greg, also kept us safe and comfortable on the road. Couldn’t have asked for a better duo. Sincere thanks to both!

Overall our trip and the locations were fantastic! What made the outing so special was the tour guide we had, Phil. It was obvious that he was devoted to his job and he gave so many intriguing facts!! We ended up taking two more tours and Phil proved to be very superior to our next two guides. He went above and beyond expectations and we learned so much. Our whole party agreed we'd come back to London solely for his tour. There was so much he taught us we didn't know and we especially felt he was very good at retelling history from a non-bias standpoint. We 100% recommend Phil and Evan and Evans tours. The locations are beautiful and our day was spent very well. If anyone asked, I would be absolutely delighted to let them know how much the tour fu-PHIL-ed everything we hoped for and more. The tour was extremely interesting and even though it's a long day, it's a good amount of stops and time with the travel time. Canterbury Cathedral was a dream to see. My only comment about the cliffs is that I assumed we would drive at the top and see the view from the cliffs. The view is from the sea level and beach, so know that before going. Lesley was a great tour guide and had a breadth of knowledge and a very soothing voice!

The tour guide knew her history and was very educational to listen to. Of every tour guide in London, enjoyed this one most! The bus driver, (Tony ;) friendly and accommodating. Canterbury cathedral is beautiful. The story of the "Watchers" protecting it during the World War, touching. Sites and scenery, lovely. Would recommend bringing snacks or sandwiches, and beverages. You do get to put your toes in the English Channel, but won't be able to touch the Cliffs of Dover. If you want up close might explore boating options or going elsewhere? I really don't have the answer as an outsider visiting. We still enjoyed our day very much! Leeds Castle from Queens to an American prior to given away, was an unexpected twist. As Americans, our group enjoyed that fact. If you are in London a few days and looking to explore and get out of the city, this might be a great option!
