Vier dorpen, zes uur, onbeperkt mezcal, privévervoer en heerlijk eten wachten op je! 1. Teotitlan del Valle: Ontdek de eeuwenoude kunst van het maken van schapenvachtkleden en alle geheimen van het vervaardigen ervan. 2. Tlacolula: We bezoeken een traditionele markt, waar je sprinkhanen, tejate en het traditionele bruiloftsbrood kunt proeven. 3. Matatlan: Leer alles over de productie van ambachtelijke mezcal. Hier kun je meer dan 8 soorten agave proberen, OMG! En we zullen authentiek eten uit Oaxaca proeven. 4. Mitla: We gaan mijn moeder bezoeken, zij is kunstenares en ontwerpster! Ze is fantastisch en ze drinkt graag mezcal. Verrassing! Ik laat je kennismaken met mijn eigen mezcal (spoiler: hij is heerlijk). We zullen een fantastische ervaring opdoen door alles te leren over wollen tapijten, van hoe ze met natuurlijke kleuren worden geverfd tot het weven op pedaalgetouwen. Hier kun je je coördinatievermogen oefenen, want je gaat op een echt weefgetouw tapijten maken. Je ontdekt ook alle geheimen van onze voorouders over hoe zij planten, dieren en boomschors gebruikten om schapenwol te verven en zo hun tapijten te maken.
We maken een rondleiding door de meest karakteristieke gangpaden van de Tlacolula-markt; het is magisch om met de marktverkopers in contact te komen. Hier proberen we verschillende pre-Spaanse dranken en gerechten, zoals Tejate, traditioneel brood en sprinkhanen (durf jij ze te proberen?). Als uw reservering op zondag is, bezoeken we de oudste markt in de vallei, maken we een rondleiding over de hele markt en kunt u zien hoe mensen deze dag gebruiken om hun producten te delen, te verkopen en uit te wisselen. Hier beleef je de cultuur van Oaxaca op authentieke wijze.
En wat is een bezoek aan Oaxaca zonder de heerlijke mezcal? Matatlán, de wereldhoofdstad van de mezcal! Hier leer je alles over het distillatieproces en voel je je een echte mezcalmeester. Maar bovenal kun je meer dan 8 verschillende soorten wilde agave proeven: Cuixe, tobalá, mexicano, tepeztate en nog veel meer. We bezoeken ook het agaveveld, zodat je kunt zien hoe het groeit. Nadat we alles over het productieproces hebben geleerd en alle verschillende soorten mezcal hebben geproefd, is het tijd voor de lunch. We gaan genieten van een traditionele maaltijd uit Oaxaca, die je vast heerlijk zult vinden. Daarbij serveren we het gearomatiseerde water van de dag en, raad eens? Nog meer mezcal!
Maar het avontuur eindigt daar niet! We gaan naar Mitla, de stad waar ik woon. We bezoeken de kledingwinkel van mijn familie en drinken samen met mijn moeder nog wat mezcal van mijn eigen merk. Na deze dag vol activiteiten keren we terug naar de stad, maar niet voordat we een wandeling maken door de hoofdstraten van Mitla.

Awesome day. The textile experience was at a family operation and went through all the steps that were handed down from generation to generation.
Irwin is the guide and organiser of this tour. As I was the only person - indeed he would go even if I was the only one in the tour - I had a lot of informative conversations with him while he drove us to all the points of interest. Compared to the other tours I feel this one has a high personal touch.

This was an excellent day trip! The entire day exceeded our expectations. Our guide Irvin was a knowledgeable local with perfect English. We started by visiting a traditional weaving family in Teotilán del Valle. As an avid knitter, I really enjoyed learning how the weaver went from taking raw wool from a nearby pueblo to washing it in a basket with a native root, carding it, dyeing it with natural plants and minerals, to weaving beautiful rugs and wall hangings. I tried my hand at spinning the wool into yarn and can really appreciate the skill and the expertise of the weaver! My non-knitting husband also found the whole process very engaging. Our next stop was a palenque, where we learned about the various types of agave plants used in making mezcal, to seeing the steps involved in the making the final product. Of course, we then tasted various blends and purchased some to take home. Afterwards, the tour included lunch at the pelanque. The third stop was at the market in Tlacolula de Matamoros. We tasted (and purchased) some Chapulines, then we moved on to a tasting of delicious Tejate. Afterwards, we had some local bread with cinnamon and raisins. We were there on a Thursday, and we appreciated that it wasn't as busy as it would be on a Sunday. Our final stop was Irvin's hometown of Mitla, where we met his delightful mother in her clothing store and had a tour of the town. It was such a great day...we highly recommend this day trip!

This was my favorite tour in Oaxaca! Irvin’s passion is contagious and it was so much fun experiencing food, mezcal and cultural traditions with his friends and family. So enjoyable I booked a follow-up tour with his cousin Cesar to visit caves near Mitla.

This tour is the must to join in Oaxaca. We could exposure Oaxaca culture and history through seeing, touching, smelling and tasting! Our tour guide, Margoni was super helpful, patient, cheerful and knowledgeable. We had a great filling day in Oaxaca! Our guide Irvin was very knowledgeable, very energetic, very attentive to our needs, he answered all our questions and concerns. We had a great experience and plan to book with him again in the future. Our favorite besides all the mezcal tasting was riding through Mitla's downtown in quads. He took care of pictures and videos so we could just enjoy the tour....

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Irvin, who was very personable, lively, knowledgeable, and spoke excellent English. The tour exceeded our expectations. The woman who provided the demonstration of rug making was delightful, Irvin’s leadership through the tianguis atTlacolula was superb, the Mezcal tasting demonstration was expansive, and the ride on ATV at Milka was an unusual treat. Don’t miss it!
Lovely guide who took us to the Tlacula Market and helped us try all sorts of unique foods that are very old ,some pre-Hispanic.I even got an opportunity to meet his very nice family.It was overall a great tour experience!I would recommend it to all who come to Oaxaca!!
