Relaxing day in the western coast of Estonia. Ex russian military base / town which was totally closed back in the days of U.S.S.R. Coastal cliffs are a hidden treasure and best viewed down at the beach. Steep stairs down, but you would not regret the climbing. You also see a former prison area and even a place where estonian version of Romeo and Juliet took place. Performers were heavy duty machines and trucks !! And the day closes with a visit to see and feel an ex military war plane Antonov in Kiela. The cockpit is fantastic.
The tour was great! We went to some really cool places and learnt a lot about Estonia. The nature we saw was beautiful and the tour was perfect. Our guide was awesome, he had so much knowledge to share and he made this tour memorable and fun. I’m so happy that I booked this tour!
Our Guide Kullo was very informative about military history, which we enjoyed thoroughly. He took us off the beaten path at our request because we like to see unusual things. The gun placements to protect the czar of Saint Petersburg, which are abandoned had interesting tunnels, cliffs facing the Baltic Sea, an old military cemetery, which used airplane tail wings as gravemarkers and the prison rock quarry, which was submerged was quite beautiful.
The tour far exceeded any expectations I had. Kallo was excellent as our tour leader, listening to every person’s individual reasons for coning on the tour and doing his utmost to make our day truly memorable, individually and as a group. We were provided some unique perspectives through a wonderful blend of expected and unexpected moments. If you’re in Tallinn and do one tour beyond the confines of the old town, do this one!!
Kullo our guide went above and beyond to make our experience unique. He asked us all why we chose this tour. He listened to us all and then made sure each person had the experience they were after. Culture, History, Nature, shared Stories of his family history. We walked in tunnels, climbed in a Russian Cargo plane, Waterfalls, nature walk, Coastal cliff, saw photos of the sea ice last winter, great choice for lunch, a lovely Cafe, language history lessons, a Russian Orthodox Church, quaint houses on small tracks for roads and the Prison Quarry. An Estonia drink and Russian Chocolates from a Butcher Shop. What a day! Thank you Kullo for showing us so much. It definitely was a unique day!
This was a fantastic tour! Kullo was the best guide anyone could ask for. He was so knowledgeable, hilarious and very accommodating. He wasn’t afraid to go off the beaten path to show us unique sites with interesting stories to go along. It was a full day but the time just flew by. I would highly recommend this tour and if you get Kullo you will have a phenomenal experience.
We had an amazing day with Kollu! At the start of the day he asked us what we were interested in and he emphasized that he was planning to make the day unexpected and unique. He certainly did that and much more! We loved all of the local stops and stories he shared to illustrate Estonia’s 20th century history. He was super receptive to our live feedback and expanded on things when we asked. We really loved our day it was so unique and we learned so much!
Excellent day, Kullo shared his knowledge and a nice touch was the use of the IPad to show visuals of the geography in particular. A well paced day with a good lunch stopover (not included) that was a delicious recommendation.
Had an amazing tour with Kullo and Helen. It was a very unique experience as I got to see things I'd never get to see anywhere like soviet era military bunkers, former limestone quarry and an actual soviet era military transport plane and you get to go inside as well. They also took us to a few other places which were not in the itinerary but were beautiful.
Although I was booked on the Quarry trip, unfortunately Viator had to cancel as I was travelling alone and nobody else had booked on :( they recommended I join the Lahemaa trip and I’m so glad they did. Honestly a wonderful way of seeing Estonias gorgeous countryside. Special mention to Astra who went above and beyond to make my trip perfect and memorable. She was warm, welcoming and really easy to talk to. I was with a family of four other people on the trip and Astra was really sweet to sit with me at lunch and talk. The tour itself is exceptional, but the kindness of Astra alone deserves a mention. She even dropped me back at my hotel in the van. This alone made the day even better for me as it meant I could get ready at my hotel quicker and enjoy a lovely meal on my final night. Thank you to everyone at Viator and Astra for doing this for me as a solo traveller :)
