Onze gids leidt je door het hart van het park en dompelt je onder in de betekenis van het Nationaal Monument. Maar dat is niet alles. Bereid je voor om de lagen van de Costa Ricaanse samenleving te ontrafelen terwijl we het historische treinstation onthullen. Onze gidsen vertellen de cruciale rol die dit station heeft gespeeld bij het vormgeven van de cultuur van het land.
Onze gids leidt je naar de wijk Otoya. Deze levendige buurt valt op door zijn met bomen omzoomde straten, historische gebouwen en een groot aantal kunstgalerijen, charmante cafés en haute cuisine-restaurants. Hier hebben bezoekers de mogelijkheid om te genieten van een unieke samensmelting van oud en modern.
Je gids neemt je mee naar Parque España en Parque Morazán. Parque España is een emblematische plek die u omringt met zijn koloniale charme en ontspannen sfeer. Parque Morazán is een historisch juweel in het hart van San José. Dit park heeft een fascinerende architectuur. Daarnaast is het park opgesierd met fonteinen, schaduwrijke bankjes en prachtige tuinen.
Volgende stop Het Nationaal Theater van San José is een historische schat en een emblematisch symbool van Costa Rica. Dit majestueuze theater, gebouwd aan het einde van de 19e eeuw, is een levend getuigenis van de rijkdom en passie voor kunst die de Costa Ricaanse natie kenmerkt. De gevel van het theater is adembenemend, met zijn prachtige neoklassieke stijl en zijn imposante colonnade. Bij binnenkomst wordt u begroet door een oogverblindend vertoon van luxe en elegantie in elk architectonisch detail. De lobby maakt indruk met zijn weelde, prachtige muurschilderingen en weelderige decoratie.
We houden een korte pauze in een cafetaria, waar u een van de beste koffiesoorten van het land kunt proberen. Als u niet van koffie houdt, bieden wij u ook vruchtensap of ijskoffie aan (drank is inbegrepen)
De kathedraal is een zeer belangrijke plaats voor San Jose, een constructie die meer dan 50 jaar heeft geduurd, met prachtige architectonische afwerkingen.
Daarna lopen we verder naar de Centrale Bank van Costa Rica, gelegen in San José, het is een belangrijke financiële instelling en een symbool van de economische ontwikkeling en monetaire stabiliteit van het land. Het speelt een fundamentele rol bij het toezicht op en de regulering van het financiële systeem, evenals bij de uitgifte en controle van de nationale munteenheid. Het gebouw van de Centrale Bank is een uitstekend architectonisch werk dat het belang en de soliditeit van deze instelling weerspiegelt. Het werd gebouwd in de jaren 80 en dankzij het strakke, moderne ontwerp is het een visueel herkenningspunt in het stadsbeeld van San Jose.
Uiteindelijk lopen we verder naar de centrale markt. Met meer dan een eeuw geschiedenis is deze markt een must-stop voor bezoekers die het authentieke Costa Ricaanse dagelijkse leven willen ontdekken en een breed scala aan lokale producten willen ontdekken. Bij het betreden van de Centrale Markt word je ondergedompeld in een levendige en kleurrijke omgeving. De smalle, labyrintische gangen herbergen een breed scala aan kraampjes en winkels met allerlei soorten producten, van vers fruit, groenten en zeevruchten tot handwerk, kleding en souvenirs. Een van de belangrijkste attracties van de markt is het gevarieerde gastronomische aanbod. Hier vindt u tal van restaurants en frisdranken (kleine eettentjes) waar u typisch Costa Ricaanse gerechten kunt proberen, zoals gallo pinto (rijst en bonen), casado (een combinatie van rijst, bonen, vlees, gebakken bakbanaan en salade), en een ruime keuze aan heerlijke hapjes en traditionele drankjes.

What an experience! Juan Manuel was an AWESOME tour guide! He was thorough and so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all things Costa Rica! He took his time walking us around San Jose and highlighting lots of information about past leaders, politics, architecture, food, birds, and even the Detroit Pistons! Juan Manuel was truly a joy to be around, and by the end of our tour, we felt like family! We had quick stops for ice cream, coffee, and souvenirs as well. We had a very informative and interesting tour with a lovely young lady. Sorry forgot her name but it started with a O. Unfortunately this is only a 2 hour walking tour and is quite expensive. Actually it cost more than European city tours.

On Sundays, however, the Central Market is closed, so the itinerary is slightly shorter. Also, your booking was for a private tour, which is priced higher than our regular shared walking tour. This was an excellent walking tour of central San Jose. We saw all of the highlights of this under-rated city. Our guide, Frank was exceptional. He was friendly and informative and was genuinely proud of his city and country. He made it a very enjoyable experience. The small breaks (with an included water, small gift, and coffee) were a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this experience when in San Jose.

We just completed our small group walking tour with Andrea (our local guide) who was excellent and so knowledgeable about the city of San Jose and Costa Rica in general. In my opinion, this is a must-do activity for visitors interested in learning more about Costa Rica and its rich history. We are glad we did not skip this tour!
