De meeste bezoekers zien de Uros drijvende eilanden vanaf een rondvaartboot en trekken verder. Deze ervaring plaatst je op de eilanden zelf en werkt samen met de families die hun huizen generaties lang op lagen totorariet hebben gebouwd en herbouwd. Je snijdt vers riet uit het meer en helpt ze neer te leggen — dezelfde onderhoudsroutine die de Uro's elke paar weken volgen om te voorkomen dat hun eilanden zinken. Er is ook een kans om visnetten langs de kust op te zetten met traditionele methoden, en als je wilt, kun je traditionele Uro-kleding een tijdje passen. Tussen de activiteiten door maakt de gemeenschap zich open over hun dagelijkse knutselwerk. Je ziet hoe ze textiel weven en ingewikkelde sieraden vormen, en ze begeleiden je graag door het proces. Watervogels komen en gaan de hele tijd over het meer, dus er gebeurt altijd iets om je heen — een deel van wat de eilanden minder als een bestemming laat voelen en meer als iemand die woont, thuis werkt.

Deze tour slaat het gebruikelijke toeristische circuit over en neemt je rechtstreeks mee in het dagelijks leven op de Uros drijvende eilanden. Je snijdt totorariet direct uit het meer, helpt visnetten op te zetten langs de kust en draagt zelfs traditionele Uro-kleding — het soort dingen dat de meeste bezoekers van het Titicacameer nooit kunnen doen. Houd tussen de activiteiten door het water in de gaten : ibissen, meerkoeten en andere watervogels bewegen voortdurend door het riet om u heen. Je Uro-hosts zullen je vertellen hoe ze alles maken, van miniatuurbootjes tot geweven wandtapijten, en je de technieken uitleggen die generaties lang zijn doorgegeven. Het is minder een show en meer een gesprek — een kans om te zien hoe deze gemeenschap eigenlijk aan het meer leeft, niet alleen hoe het aan toeristen wordt gepresenteerd.
Uw route doorkruist het Titicaca National Reserve, waar het landschap verschuift tussen open water, dichte totoramoerassen en clusters van drijvende eilanden in de verte. Grebes, Andesmeeuwen en aalscholvers zijn hier een veelvoorkomend gezicht — uw Gids zal ze aanwijzen terwijl de boot door het reservaat vaart. Eenmaal op de eilanden zult u uit eerste hand zien hoe de Uros hun thuis onderhouden : vers totorariet snijden en over het oppervlak van het eiland leggen om het stevig en drijvend te houden. Je mag gerust een mes pakken en meedoen. Het is fysiek, een beetje modderig, en een van de duidelijkste manieren om te begrijpen hoe diep het dagelijks leven van deze gemeenschap verbonden is met het meer om hen heen.

Really very incisive experience! I was able to get a very authentic insight into the life of Jose and his community. Always aiming to impart knowledge about the way of life of the Uros. With mutual respect for each other, for nature and culture. Something that is unfortunately missing from the tourist excursions with other providers! Thank you Jose! . So far my most beautiful trip ever!!!
Ana & José were so welcoming & appreciative for our visit. They taught us to fish, harvest the reed they use for the island, & what life is like on the islands. They brought us into their home where we got the opportunity to try on their traditional clothing and even buy some of Ana’s tapestry work. A must-do tour when visiting. Note: They offered us reed to eat, but please be careful because it can cause stomach issues for some.
Our guide Samuel was very nice, he gave us a lot of information that made our trip pleasant and enjoyable. I really recommend Samuel if you are planning to have a day tour at Uros Island and Sillustany..
This trip was GREAT! Very informative, very organized, very impactful! Drink the coca tea!! Elevation really messes with you but my tour guide was helpful and wonderful!
Excellent Tour. The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable about the place. He knew how to explain everything to us in great detail. We traveled to the islands by catamaran, we met a family on an island, we sailed on the famous rafts and we had lunch on an island. Everything beautiful.
It was a different and very emotional experience, where we were able to be close to these noble people of the Uros in the middle of Lake Titicaca. The guide was very attentive.

My favorite part was the tour guide, Hugo- he was great and went above and beyond. It was also nice being out on the lake and seeing how they use reeds for their islands. It is a relaxing and relatively slow day, but a cultural experience.
