Ga op een dagexcursie naar Brisbane aan wal en dompel jezelf onder in natuurwonderen, architectonische wonderen en culturele hoogtepunten. Ontdek de rijke geschiedenis van de stad, van de oprichting in 1799 tot de transformatie in een bruisende metropool. Bezoek en de majestueuze Kangaroo Point Cliffs. Geniet van een heerlijke, inbegrepen lunch in het botanische tuincafé met een prachtig uitzicht op de tuin. Verken iconische bezienswaardigheden, bewonder adembenemende uitzichten en bekijk schattige koala's en inheemse dieren van dichtbij in het beroemde Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary 's werelds eerste en grootste koalareservaat. Ontdek het historische gebouw dat ooit de eerste energiebron van Brisbane was. Met uitzicht op de herenhuizen in Tenneriffe en een schattig klein café voor een snelle koffie. Geniet van de schoonheid van een oud stuk infrastructuur dat nu is omgebouwd tot een uitgaansgebied.
The Story Bridge is een monumentale stalen vrijdragende brug over de Brisbane-rivier die het auto-, fiets- en voetgangersverkeer vervoert tussen de noordelijke en zuidelijke buitenwijken van Brisbane, Queensland, Australië. Het is de langste vrijdragende brug in Australië. De weg over de brug heet Bradfield Highway.
Bezoek de bougainvillea Arch en het Brisbane Sign voor de beste foto van Brisbane! De South Bank Parklands, die zijn aangelegd op het voormalige terrein van World Expo 88, zijn een van de populairste toeristische attracties van Brisbane. De parken herbergen vele restaurants en cafés, evenals bezienswaardigheden zoals het Queensland Conservatorium, het Wheel of Brisbane, de Nepalese Peace Pagoda, Streets Beach (een gratis kunstmatig zwemgedeelte) en de Grand Arbour. Jaarlijks bezoeken ongeveer 11.000.000 mensen de South Bank Parklands.[1]
We zullen langs de Brisbane River reizen en onderweg veel dingen zien, van historische gebouwen en bruggen tot onze prachtige stadskat die langs deze verbazingwekkende lange rivier vaart die zich uitstrekt van de monding van de oceaan tot aan Toowong.
Bekijk het geweldige uitzicht over de stad en de Brisbane River! De Kangaroo Point Cliffs zijn gemaakt door veroordeelden die het vulkanische gesteente of de ignimbrite of gelaste tufsteen delven die de kliffen vormen. Deze lava's en pyroclastische rotsen werden ongeveer 230 miljoen jaar geleden in het Trias afgezet en vulden een oude riviervallei. Deze rotsen stonden bekend als porfier en werden later bekend als de geologische eenheid genaamd Brisbane tufsteen. Uit gegevens blijkt dat het kapitein Patrick Logan, commandant van de strafkolonie van Moreton Bay, was die al in 1826 voor het eerst een steengroeve opende om steen voor zijn bouwwerken te leveren. Steen uit de steengroeve werd gebruikt om delen van de Brisbane River te bekleden met muren, voor de Manly Boat Harbor en in de nieuwe haven van Brisbane. De steengroeve werd uiteindelijk in 1976 gesloten.[3]
Bekijk Brisbane van bovenaf met bijna 360 graden uitzicht over de stad! Vóór de strafkolonie van Moreton Bay was Mount Coot-tha de thuisbasis van de Yugara Aboriginals. De Aboriginals kwamen naar het gebied om ku-ta te verzamelen, het Yugarabul-woord voor honing dat werd geproduceerd door de inheemse angelloze bij. In 1839 ontruimden landmeter James Warner en zijn team de top van de berg van alle bomen behalve één grote eucalyptusboom. Omdat deze enkele boom vanaf veel andere locaties zichtbaar was, werd hij gebruikt als trigonometrisch station om landmeetkundige metingen uit te voeren. Dit leidde ertoe dat de berg One Tree Hill werd genoemd. In 1873 werden de bossen op de berg gereserveerd en uitgeroepen tot houtreservaat om hout te leveren voor het groeiende spoorwegnet van Queensland. De naam Coot-tha verving de naam One Tree Hill toen het gebied in augustus 1883 tot park werd verklaard. De naam werd voorgesteld door Henry Wyatt Radford, de griffier van de Queensland Legislative Council.
We zullen hier lunchen en tijd hebben om door de tuinen te dwalen. De Brisbane Botanic Gardens heeft een scala aan attracties met planten uit verschillende landschappen, waaronder een tropische broeikas, een Japanse tuin, een droge zone (planten uit Midden-Amerika en Afrika) en een eilandenzone in de Stille Oceaan. De belangrijkste tentoonstelling is de 27 hectare grote tentoonstelling van inheemse Australische planten (met de nadruk op planten uit Queensland), met een kunstmatige lagune.
Bezoek het langstlopende koalareservaat in Australië! Een geweldige kleine dierentuin! Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary werd in 1927 geopend door Queenslander, Claude Reid. We openden aanvankelijk met slechts twee koala's, Jack en Jill, in een tijd waarin wilde koala's werden geruimd voor de bonthandel. Claude besefte al snel dat er iets moest gebeuren om een van de meest iconische soorten van Australië te helpen beschermen. Het heiligdom is vernoemd naar de enorme hoepelpijnboom die vandaag de dag nog steeds bij onze ticketingang staat. Er wordt gezegd dat de enkele dennenboom vroeger een locatiemarkering was voor gasten die het heiligdom via de Brisbane River bezochten en hun boten aanmeerden bij de ‘lone pine’. De boom werd in 1867 door Daniel Clarkson geplant, toen het pand nog een katoenboerderij was.

What a wonderful day! Mark took us straight to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary before all the big tour buses arrived. We spent over two hours there and got to feed the kangaroos and touch the koala. It was getting very busy when we left. Lunch out was delicious and the views of Brisbane were spectacular. Thank you!

It was a difficult weather day, not the tour company’s fault obviously. Generally they did a good job improvising and making the best of it; however having better process over checking people in, who had bought lunch, who was not riding back, and the communication of where/when to meet could have been better. We would definitely do again, and felt it was still good value, despite Mother Nature raining on our parade!

Tania provided an excellent tour of Brisbane, including Mt. Coot-tha, the river area and bridge, and the botanical gardens where we had a good lunch. We ended the tour at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we fed the kangaroos and met an adorable koala. I highly recommend this tour for anyone traveling to Brisbane.

Had a wonderful time on this tour. While we left late due to one couple arriving well after the clearly stated time, Mark (our guide) did a great job rearranging our itinerary, so we were able to see everything we wanted to see. Loved the small van vs. the BIG bus you end up on when you book through the cruise line. We were able to hop off quickly at all the stops, spend an appropriate amount of time, and jump right back on. We could have spent less time at the Koala Sanctuary as most of the group were done under 2 hours (we were allotted 2.5 hours) so suggestion for future would be somehow predetermine how long the stay should be.

Great customer service from booking to return to the cruise terminal. Tanya is a great guide and driver, if you overlooked her dad jokes! 🤣 Lunch was very nice and tasty after our highlights tour and set us up nicely for the lone pine tree visit. Bottle of water provided which was very welcome on a hot day. The packet of crisps were the dogs B as it's been 6+ weeks since I last had a packet. To get a real personal service, do book this one.
