De Sema-ceremonie vertegenwoordigt de mystieke reis van de spirituele beklimming van de mens door liefde en zijn zoektocht naar waarheid en perfectie. Er wordt aangenomen dat als de mens eenmaal is teruggekeerd van zijn spirituele reis, hij alle wezens om hem heen kan liefhebben en van dienst kan zijn. Vanavond heb je de kans om een authentieke Cappadocische ceremonie te ervaren en getuige te zijn van een oud Turks ritueel. Je wordt opgehaald bij je accommodatie in Cappadocië en vervoerd door luxe vervoer met airconditioning naar de caravanserais, (caravanplaatsen). Deze verblijfplaatsen werden gebouwd toen de handel in Turkije in de middeleeuwse Seltsjoekse tijden afhankelijk was van kameeltreinen. De gebouwen boden onderdak aan de kooplieden en stalling voor hun dieren. Tegenwoordig zijn deze oude structuren de site van The Sema. De ceremonie duurt een uur en gedurende deze tijd zal uw vriendelijke en professionele Engelssprekende gids u door de ceremonie leiden en u voorstellen aan Serbet, een traditionele religieuze plengoffer

De hele ceremonie duurt ongeveer een uur en na de ceremonie bieden we 'Serbet' aan, een religieus drankje. Turkish Heritage Travel haalt je een half uur eerder op bij je hotel in Goreme of andere steden van Cappadocië, waardoor je genoeg tijd hebt om de delen van de karavanserai te zien voorafgaand aan de ceremonie.

There was a combination of folk dancers and a meal. The food wasn’t particularly good - but that was okay. The dancers were good, and that was fun. But the dancers were pushy for extra money, and after the first few tips, reduced our enjoyment

The whirling dervish show is advertised on Viator as being at a caravanserai. However, it is actually in the basement of a hotel. Also, there was a problem with the transportation to the event with the driver, insisting that we had not paid for a hotel pick up. However, the dance itself was very moving and a very interesting cultural experience.

We chose to go by ourselves. The communication came shortly after our reservation and everything was smooth. We ran a bit late to the venue but got in without any issues. The performance (more like a ceremony) was tranquil and sacred. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to experience sema.

The dance is basically only twirling and walking as slow as humanly possible. It really is a 10 minute experience drawn out to one hour.
