Burnings, Butchery & Black Death: een wandeltocht door het bloedige verleden van Londen

Reis door duizend jaar geschiedenis en ontmoet middeleeuwse ridders, lijkenrovers, Charles Dickens, een geest uit de achttiende eeuw, en William Wallace, ook bekend als Braveheart (en leer hoe hij niet in staat was om "Freeeedoooommmm!" te roepen terwijl hij werd geëxecuteerd!) Tijdens onze wandeltocht bezoeken we de gebieden rond Smithfield, eeuwenlang de plaats van Londen waar zowel dieren als mensen werden geslacht. We leren hoe de stad in de veertiende eeuw de tienduizenden lijken van de Zwarte Dood opruimde, welke executiemethoden er in de middeleeuwen werden gebruikt en hoe het gebied een beruchte sloppenwijk werd die Dickens gebruikte als decor voor Oliver Twist. De wandeltocht begint buiten Barbican Station, eindigt vlakbij Farringdon Station en duurt ongeveer twee uur. De totale afstand bedraagt ongeveer twee mijl. De kaartverkoop is beperkt tot vijftien deelnemers, om maximaal plezier voor iedereen op de tour te garanderen.

I rarely write any reviews but the tour with Tom was so great that I want to leave my feedback here! I highly recommend exploring London with this fantastic guide! He knows his city well and by his fabulous choice of book citations and his lively told stories he enabled us to travel back a few centuries in time and experience the history of London right in front of our eyes! I’ve walked these areas alone before, I know quite a bit of London’s history, but walking with Tom was a lot more fun and he knew all kinds of interesting things that I didn’t. It was a fun group, we all enjoyed it a lot.
The tour was really interesting! Tom was a super nice guide and explained everything so well, sharing lots of details about the history of London, fascinating curiosities from the past, and fun facts.
