Bezoek Poienari Fortress, het echte Vlad Tepes' Residential Castle en we rijden over de Transfagarasan snelweg, gebouwd als strategische militaire route, is de op een na hoogste verharde weg in Roemenië en door sommigen beschouwd als de meest dramatische. Rijden op Transfagarasan Highway zo bekend als "de weg naar de hemel", "de weg naar de wolken", "de best rijdende weg in de wereld" en zelfs "Een spectaculair monument voor de aarde-Moving Megalomania"! BELANGRIJK: !!!Vanwege enkele bouwwerkzaamheden aan de weg kan de tour langer duren dan normaal!!! Transfagarasan road is geopend in 2024 tussen 7 juni - 31 oktober! Wanneer de Transfagarasan weg is afgesloten (1 november - 30 juni) rijden we naar de Balea Waterval (geen bezoek aan Poienari Fort en Vidradu Dam). Als de weersomstandigheden het toelaten nemen we de kabelbaan naar het Balea meer (extra 20 euro/persoon). We bezoeken ook de ruïnes van de cisterciënzerabdij van Carta en het verbazingwekkende Sambata de Sus-klooster.

Rijden op de Transfagarasan Highway, bekend als "de weg naar de lucht", "de weg naar de wolken", "de beste rijweg ter wereld" en zelfs "een spectaculair monument voor aardse grootheidswaanzin" BELANGRIJK: de Transfagarasan-weg is geopend tussen 1 juli en 31 oktober! Wanneer de Transfagarasan-weg gesloten is (1 november - 30 juni) rijden we naar de Balea-waterval (geen bezoek aan het Poienari-fort en de Vidradu-dam). Als de weersomstandigheden het toelaten, nemen we de kabelbaan naar het Balea-meer (ongeveer 20 euro extra per persoon, inclusief kabelbaanticket voor de gids). We bezoeken ook de ruïnes van de cisterciënzer abdij van Carta en het verbazingwekkende Sambata de Sus-klooster.
We wandelen naar Balea Waterfall - de hoogste step-waterval in Roemenië, meer dan 60 meter lang.
Balea Lac is een natuurlijk gletsjermeer op 2040 meter, 360 meter lang, 240 meter breed en 11 meter diep.
Het werd voltooid in 1966 aan de rivier de Argeș en creëert Lake Vidraru. De boogdam werd gebouwd met het primaire doel om hydro-elektriciteit te produceren. De dam is 166 meter hoog, de booglengte 305 meter en kan 465 miljoen kubieke meter water opslaan. Het reservoir heeft een totale kustlijn (omtrek) lengte van 28 km.
Bezoek het fort Poienari, het echte woonkasteel van Vlad Tepes. Toegang tot de citadel van Poienari wordt gemaakt door de 1480 betonnen trappen te beklimmen. Fort Poienari is tot nader order gesloten.

De ophaaltijd zal variëren op basis van de gevraagde locatie. Daarnaast zetten we gasten graag tegen een meerprijs af op een andere locatie dan het ophaalpunt.

Als de weersomstandigheden het toelaten, nemen we de kabelbaan naar het Baleameer (ongeveer 20 euro extra per persoon, inclusief het kabelbaankaartje voor de Gids, ook). We bezoeken ook de ruïnes van de cisterciënzerabdij van Carta en het verbazingwekkende Sambata de Sus-klooster.
- De kabelbaan werkt met minimaal 10 personen. Toeristen hebben voorrang op vrachtzendingen. Op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag wordt geen vracht vervoerd. In geval van ongunstige weersomstandigheden nemen wij geen verantwoordelijkheid. In geval van technische storing wordt het betaalde bedrag terugbetaald. Blijf alsjeblieft tickets controleren. Our guide picked us up and we were on our way. We made several stops along the way and learned a great deal of history. The road was windy and twisty….everything we thought it would be. If you get Marius as your guide, you can’t go wrong!!

The experience was amazing! The views, the atmosphere are cost every coin. It’s a bit long trip so you have to be prepared for this. Guide was very kind, made all stops and helped with everything. This is the best option if you want to visit Poenari and see the beauty of the Transfagarashan

On the 31st of July 2025, we visited the Bâlea lake waterfalls, the Bâlea Lake, the Vidraru dam… We then rode on the Transfăgărășan road, saw some bears, and went up to visit the Poenari fortress. The trip with Dan was awesome. He was very friendly and helpful. We were only us 2, my boyfriend Julien and me, and our guide, Dan. He respected our pace and let us discover by ourselves. He simply helped us keep track of the time and drove us around. We had some good discussions and information from him. I appreciated how grounded he was, he talked about the positive and the negative points also which was very rewarding. He was flexible for the pick-up and drop-off point as we were only 2. After this trip which took us all day, we already considered Dan as a friend. We loved everything about this tour and we really loved our guide !

Fantastic trip and highly recommend this trip. I travelled alone. Dan, my guide and driver was superb. Collected me on time from my hotel. Safe, professional guide and driver. Conversed well along the way and entertained me with his fabulous singing. Dan bought fresh bread just before we left Braşov and he shared his homemade lunch with me. It’s a long day and I was tired at the end of the day, but Dan remained energetic and motivated. Definitely a very worthwhile trip to make. The highlight of my trip to Romania.

We have seen a lot of things in only one day, lake at 2000 meters about sea level, waterfall, 3 wild bears, a hidroeléctric plant, a monastery and churches, many mountain villages. The guide knows very well the country, and told us a lot about history, politics, religion etc. Nice experience

The fortress was closed. Some roads were under repair resulting in missing some sight seeing spots. The guide did his best to offer substitutes. Viator should have informed customers on these changes. We would have reconsidered the tour had we been info of these problems.

Dan was an excellent tour guid ! Enjoyed his knowledge of the country very much! The bears on the Transfagarasan Road was fantastic! The bears , the waterfalls and all the stops on the way were amazing! I call him Dan the singing tour man ❤️ He has a fabulous voice and we sang many songs! I would definitely recommend him !!!

Views were amazing, we didn't get to see the views from the top as it was foggy but no one can control the weather, views on way down made up for it, loved seeing a couple of bears as an extra. Guide very knowledgeable, friendly and easy to approach. Went back to book a different tour as first one was so amazing.

The tour hosted by Charlie was absolutely amazing! He is a very experienced and friendly guide for the spots we visited and we feel very safe to ride with him. Charlie speaks very well English although we try to speak some basic greetings in Romanian. He is a very fun guy and we really like chatting with him en route. We saw bears along the highway that we all very excited but please remember to respect the nature and wildlife by not feeding and disturbing them. I give it 10/10 if I have to rate the whole trip.
