Did not take place. We stood in front of locked doors at 38 degrees. No means of return transport in sight and no network. Great adventure
We joined a cooking class at Amal during our trip to Morocco. There are many options online, with all kinds of prices and styles, but we were looking for something authentic and off the beaten path… and we couldn’t have made a better choice! Amal is so much more than a cooking school — it’s a project that offers real opportunities to Moroccan women, and experiencing it up close was truly moving. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the very beginning. Cooking traditional Moroccan dishes (absolutely delicious!) was fun and engaging, and learning about the tea ceremony was a real revelation. So tasty — and the cookies were unforgettable! As some reviews mention, there are some waiting times, but for us those moments were a chance for pleasant conversations and sharing. A special thank you to our wonderful teachers, who guided us with patience and smiles, and to Ghita, who shared the story behind the association, their future projects, and took us on a beautiful journey through Moroccan culture. Her words were inspiring and fascinating… even our children were captivated! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a genuine, heartfelt and… truly tasty experience!
Excellent! Highly recommended. We did the baking course and it was a wonderful way to spend the morning. Rita is an amazing coordinator and she explained the rituals, traditions as well as the amazing work the Amal center is doing for the community. The professional chefs explained all the steps and the food was wonderful.
Beautiful experience, involving both in the part of the course and in the story of the initiatives of this NGO and in the tea ceremony. Really highly recommended!
Me and my family (Husband and two daughters aged 9 and 6) visited the Amal centre to do bake Moroccan treats. We all had a great time in a wonderful centre. On arrival we was greeted warmly by Assia and the children we told they could use the trampoline whilst we waited to start as we had arrived early. We then got started and made some delicious food and got to eat them afterwards as a group. We had a wonderful time and would recommend to anyone visiting Marrakesh.
We took our 7 yr old daughter who had a whale of a time making some coconut coated cookies and msemen (flat square layered pancake). The staff were lovely, even though only a couple of them spoke English. We were especially interested to see how they help underprivileged women and children. We took a taxi there, but it would be useful to pre-book a ride back, as it was difficult to get a taxi even when we walked up to the main road.
In addition to having the privilege of contributing to a project that deals with the training of women at risk of social exclusion, you will spend a unique morning surrounded by sweet people, skilled cooks and unforgettable traditions. We went with the whole family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and learned how to prepare chicken and lamb tajine. While waiting for cooking, we collected the herbs for the preparation of mint tea. Sitting on the sofas in the garden we exchanged information and experiences that will always remain in our hearts. Thanks in particular to Assia for her welcome, availability and kindness. The Center is located in a very nice but decentralized residential area so it is preferable to go by taxi.
