Ontdek de belangrijkste overblijfselen van de Inca-beschaving tijdens een tour die geschiedenis, archeologie en cultuur combineert in het hart van Cusco. Tijdens deze tour van een halve dag bezoek je belangrijke archeologische vindplaatsen aan de rand van de stad en leer je meer over de grandeur van het Incarijk met een Gids aan je zijde. De route omvat Qorikancha, Sacsayhuaman, Q'enqo, Puka Pukara en Tambomachay, plus een speciale stop om Peruaanse lama's en alpaca's van dichtbij te bekijken. Tijdens de tour zal je Gids details delen over de geschiedenis, architectuur en tradities die Cusco tot een van Peru's belangrijkste culturele bestemmingen maken.

In het hart van het historische centrum van Cusco staat Qorikancha, bekend als de Tempel van de Zon en een van de belangrijkste religieuze centra van het Incarijk. Tijdens het bezoek krijg je het Inca-steenwerk te zien en zie je hoe de ruimte later werd opgenomen in het klooster van Santo Domingo.
Onze volgende stop is Sacsayhuaman, een van de meest indrukwekkende archeologische complexen in Cusco. De massieve stenen, zorgvuldig in elkaar gezet, onthullen de geavanceerde kennis van de Inca's van techniek en constructie. Het terrein ligt op ongeveer 3.700 meter boven zeeniveau. Het bezoek vindt plaats in een ontspannen tempo, zodat u kunt genieten van de site en de uitleg van de Gids.
Slechts een paar minuten van Sacsayhuaman ligt Q'enqo, een belangrijk Inca ceremonieel centrum. De site beschikt over rotsformaties, gangen en uitgehouwen ruimtes die enkele van de religieuze praktijken en rituelen die door de Inca's werden uitgevoerd onthullen.
Verder door de bergen komen we aan bij Puka Pukara, een archeologische site met kenmerken die lijken op die van een fort. Er wordt aangenomen dat de site functies diende met betrekking tot controle, bewaking en ondersteuning voor reizigers die in Cusco aankwamen. Puka Pukara ligt op ongeveer 3.700 meter boven zeeniveau en biedt ook een prachtig uitzicht op de omliggende bergen.
Tambomachay is een van de meest fascinerende voorbeelden van Inca waterbouwkunde. Het complex bestaat uit zorgvuldig gebouwde kanalen, aquaducten en waterfonteinen, die de kennis van de Inca's laten zien hoe ze het meeste uit natuurlijke hulpbronnen kunnen halen. Het terrein ligt op ongeveer 3.800 meter boven zeeniveau.
Voordat we de tour afronden, maken we een speciale stop bij Granja Munay Wasi, waar je enkele van de meest iconische soorten uit de Andes van dichtbij kunt bekijken, zoals Peruaanse lama's en alpaca's.

- Omdat dit een tour op grote hoogte is, raden we reizigers aan aandacht te besteden aan hoe hun lichaam reageert en in een comfortabel tempo door de ervaring te bewegen. Het grootste deel van de route vindt plaats op hoogtes vergelijkbaar met of lager dan die van Cusco.

We closed a 10-day package with Machu Picchu Travel and, according to the agency, the city tour in Cusco was a courtesy included in the route. The tour lasted about 2h30 walking through Plaza Regocijo, Plaza San Francisco and Mercado de San Pedro, with historical and cultural information presented by the guide. When we arrived at St. Peter's Market, I expected the guide to talk about local food and give time to explore the environment, but we ended up passing only by the chocolate store presented by him. After this tour, we participated in other tours (Qoricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo etc.), and the guides ended up repeating many of the same information already presented on the city tour of Cusco. I felt a lack of explanations on important points, such as the Stone of the 12 Angles, as well as a presentation of the typical and different fruits found at the St. Peter’s Market. Of all the tours in the package, this was the one I liked least. I believe that a free morning to explore the city on your own would have been much more profitable.

This tour was an exceptional, highly informative half-day excursion of Cusco starting at Qoricancha (Santo Domingo Temple), and nearby archeological sites such as Sacsayhuaman, Q'enqo, and Tambomachay. We took a private tour for our family of four. Herbert, our guide was very knowledgeable and shared deep hitorical context about the Inca and colonial history. He was very friendly and always attentive to our needs.

Absolutely the WORST tour company we have ever taken in 50 years of traveling, Viagens Machu Picchu. Their pick up point was not clear at all, they ignored all my calls and messages regarding the pickup point. They did not make any efforts to find us within Cusco main square where all the other tour company representatives met with their tourists. The only saving grace was from the company that hires and sells these tours. I give Viator a 5 Star rating. Viator was very responsible; they requested all my information regarding the very poor service and late cancellation request and after Viator looked into our case, they decided to reimburse us for the cost of the tour. Do not take a Viagens Machu Picchu tour. The representative, Mr. Viagens was also very rude and lied about getting back to us; he never did!!
