Wij geloven echt dat het leren kennen van onze cultuur door middel van gastronomie; door het proeven van voedselcreaties beïnvloed door meer dan duizend jaar als bewijs van de rijkdom van onze Maya-wortel, het is de beste manier en een gegarandeerde methode om verliefd te worden op Guatemala. Laten we plezier hebben met het verkennen van onze levendige markt, het proeven van exotische seizoensvruchten en het bevredigen van uw verlangen met Guatemalteekse zoetigheden. Onderweg ontdek je details over de geschiedenis van Antigua, geniet je van het charmante koloniale stadje dat op de Werelderfgoedlijst staat, 17e-eeuwse gebouwen en bewonder je uitzicht op de omliggende vulkanen. Onze reis begint bij Casa Mandarina, een gezellig en gastvrij traditioneel koloniaal huis. Vanwaar we een duik nemen in het hart van Antigua's bruisende eetcultuur. Na bijna 500 jaar Spaanse invloed hebben we geleerd en verbeterd de technieken en verschillende bakrecepten, zo goed geaccepteerd en zo populair dat we hebben bakkerijen bijna elke 2 hoeken van waaruit we kunnen benadrukken en die we zullen stoppen door een van de volgende :" Cuchi Cuchi", "El Viejo Café", "Doña Luisa Xicotencatl", "Santa Clara".
De domesticatie van maïs werd 8.000 jaar geleden gedaan, het veranderde onze geschiedenis en werd toen een deel van onze gastronomie basis, we moeten zeker genieten van producten gemaakt met het meest relevante ingrediënt van alles in de Maya cultuur, we konden proeven tussen : Tamalitos, Chuchitos, Dobladas, Pupusas, Tamales, Tortillas of Tostadas. Vegetarische en veganistische opties zijn beschikbaar. Verwen uzelf met de exotische vruchten van Guatemala, geteeld in de vruchtbare vulkanische grond en het ideale klimaat van het land. Bij het proeven van seizoensfruit kunnen we er 2 of 3 toevoegen van een variëteit zoals : Rambután, Chico, Anona, Paterna, Pitaya, Zapote, Aguacate of Local Banana. Deze vruchten bieden een unieke en verfrissende smaak die uw gehemelte zal verrassen en de rijkdom van Guatemala's natuurlijke overvloed zal laten zien.
Comedores of Eaters in het Engels, kan zijn in de lokale markt of in verborgen familie eigen plaatsen bekend bij de lokale bevolking waar we traditionele gerechten zoals Pepián, Hilachas, Estofado konden proeven, dit zijn dikke en rijke sauzen of soepen zelfs te vergelijken met stoofpot textuur, ze worden meestal geserveerd met rijst en handgemaakte maïs tortilla's. Print onze geschiedenis in uw hart terwijl u geheimen ontdekt over de bereiding van onze heerlijke cultureel belangrijke maaltijden.
Proef traditionele Guatemalteekse zoetigheden, proef tussen 1 of 2 van : Tamarindo balletjes met suiker, Guava zoet, Canillitas de Leche of verschillende recepten afhankelijk van onze vrienden selectie. Deze zoete lekkernijen hebben een rijke geschiedenis beïnvloed door Spaanse tradities, omdat Spanjaarden verantwoordelijk zijn voor de introductie van suikerriet in de regio.
Bezoek beroemde Plazas in Antigua Guatemala, deze zullen dienen als referentie voor uw verblijf in onze charmante stad. We zouden kunnen noemen : La Merced gelegen net buiten Iglesia de la Merced, San Francisco El Grande, Tanque de La Unió en anderen, waar we over het algemeen proeven van traditionele Atol (atol is een warme drank gemaakt van maïs of zaden), Rellenitos (plantain bloem met zoete bonen saus binnen en gebakken), nog wat verrassingen.
Onze laatste stop maar niet de minste zal zijn, afhankelijk van uw voorkeur zullen we juichen met eather Local Beer of Local Coffee bij een van onze favoriete Coffee Shops Kaldi & Kapra. Increíble! JJ and the staff were kind, accommodating, informative, and helpful! We’d highly recommend going on this tour! Make it one of the first things you do in Antigua so you will get your bearings and get great suggestions for alllll the things. This is great for travelers of all ages.
Roberto was a fantastic guide and took us on such a wonderful journey through Guatemalan food. He sprinkled in stories of history, culture, and legends (after hearing my fascination with the macabre). Also every spot we went was filled with locals and we likely would have missed them without his expertise.

Roberto was our guide and he was so great! He took us all over the city and we got to try some things we otherwise wouldn’t have. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Antigua as well. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and we were lucky enough to be the only ones on this tour, so it was like our own private tour! I think that heightened the experience. I highly recommend booking this tour while you’re in Antigua!

I wish we would've tried more food and had more options. The stops seemed random at times. We didn't try everything that was listed on the itinerary just a few items. The guide was really nice but somewhat unorganized. He mentioned he was really tired from a previous tour that day, and you could tell. I think for the price you can probably find a better tour or just try food on your own. It was expensive for what it was. The food we did try was good but the main highlight was the nice guide. Overall I would've wanted more structure and to try food listed on the itinerary.

Really enjoyed this active, interesting tour with Roberto where we broke away from tourist traps and ate lots of delicious real food snd even took a jaunt on a chicken bus to the big market. Wear sturdy walking shoes for cobblestones, hat and sunscreen also good idea.

This food tour was the highlight of my trip in Antigua. Our guy was warm, curious, and super informative. We learned about architecture, history, culture, and of course, food. We visited monuments, markets, food stalls, restaurants, and left with a million recommendations for additional places to eat and visit. I can't recommend this tour enough for someone who has just arrived in Antigua and wants to get the lay of the city and learn about the local cuisine with friendly and informative people. I have done food tours in Japan, Singapore, Turkey, and Morocco, and this was hands down my absolute favorite for the way our guide incorporated history and culture and even a chicken-bus ride into our itinerary.

Felix & Bernie were great hosts for the street food walking tour. We ate many delicious tropical fruits, tostada, tamal, rellenito, etc. They even got mini bags of mixed "dulce tipicos" for us to take home. Aside from the food it was also a good overview of some of Antigua's history. Definitely recommend!

While my partner and I enjoyed the tour and our guide was extremely engaging, I do not believe that this tour offer good value for the money. The truth is that Guatemalan street food is nothing out of the ordinary, and you do not need a guide to figure out what each vendor is selling. My advice is to save your money and try experimenting on your own.

This was such a great tour! I tasted food I never would have tried and loved all of it. We walked through Antigua, took a chicken bus, and ended up at the market.
