Ruakuri Cave biedt een boeiende mix van Waitomo's meest meeslepende ondergrondse ervaringen. In deze 1,5 uur durende sightseeing tour brengt uw Gids u van dichtbij naar gloeiwormen, uitgebreide grotformaties, ondergrondse rivieren, mythen, legendes en heilige Maori-sites.

Ontdek de spectaculaire Ruakuri-grot tijdens deze begeleide wandeling van 75 minuten. De Ruakuri-grot vertoont glimwormen en is gevuld met prachtige stalactieten en stalagmieten die gedurende miljoenen jaren zijn gevormd. Aandachtspunten zijn zacht opvouwbare sjaalachtige formaties (gevormd door stromende rivieren) en gefossiliseerde zeeschelpen, die aangeven hoe de grotten ooit deel uitmaakten van de zeebodem. Belangrijke kenmerken zijn Holdens Cavern, vernoemd naar James Holden die de grot voor het eerst voor het publiek opende, The Drum Passage, The Pretties en The Ghost Passage. Tours vertrekken elke dag (behalve eerste kerstdag) om 9.00 uur, 10.00 uur, 11.30 uur, 12.30 uur, 13.30 uur, 14.30 uur en 15.30 uur. Fotografie is toegestaan in de Ruakuri-grot. Ruakuri Cave is toegankelijk voor rolstoelgebruikers. .

Nice small group of 8. Friendly humourous guide!
Our guide Wii was perfect, funny, knowledgeable and engaging. The caves itself was amazing, the history told by Wii was fascinating. Safety was paramount.
Nice to be guided through the caves and experience the atmosphere around. I just felt that there would be a lot more customer patronage if the cost to enjoy this experience was in the range of that cannot afford this. Otherwise It is a memory that I will hold onto.

If you have a loved one with a handicap some of the caves have wheelchair accessibility. Bring a sweatshirt or light jacket as some are more sensitive to cooler areas.

Absolutely worth it, I would do it everyday if I could. Not only is the cave an amazing wonder of the world but our tour guide made the experience come to life. He was knowledgeable, funny, and passionate about the whenua he is a kaitiakitanga ( the land he is guardian over).
We really enjoyed the tour through the cave. Our Chicago-born guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the caves, the geology, the science of the worms, a good story teller and fun. It was amazing to see the worms up close and to learn about all the different kinds of rock formations in the cave. We were also very impressed by the Black Water company. We were traveling without a car and they kindly shuttled us from Waitomo Caves to Ruakuri and then back to the Village Chalet. Highly recommend taking both tours- Waitomo and Ruakuri- as they are very different experiences and both really informative and fun.
