Alle cenotes die we bezochten zijn omgeven door inheemse flora en fauna, ze hebben alle vier een trap om veilig toegang te krijgen, het zijn minder drukke cenotes zodat je van de rust kunt genieten, je kunt in alle cenotes zwemmen met het gebruik van een vest, wat verplicht is in de meeste gevallen en het is al inbegrepen in de kosten van de tour. De enige cenote waar je zonder vest kunt zwemmen is de Cenote Pool Uinic. Wij leveren ook snorkelmaskers. Om bij elk van de cenotes te komen, gebruik je het busje. Het is raadzaam om zwemkleding en een aparte handdoek te dragen. Het typische eten is erg lekker en gevarieerd (er zijn vegetarische opties). De rondleiding duurt 9 uur (van 08.00 tot 17.00 uur). De tour wordt uitgevoerd in beide talen (Spaans en Engels).

Dit is het eerste ontmoetingspunt waar we reizigers ophalen voor deze tour. Het vertrek vanaf hier is stipt om 08.00 uur (met een maximale tolerantietijd van 10 minuten). Later gaan we naar het volgende ontmoetingspunt, het Santa Ana-park, en we eindigen bij het derde ontmoetingspunt, het Fiesta Americana hotel. Voordat we Mérida verlaten, stoppen we bij een winkel om water en snacks te kopen voor onderweg. Zodra we iedereen aan boord hebben en nadat we een stop bij de winkel hebben gemaakt, beginnen we onze reis naar het eerste punt van deze ongelooflijke tour. De tijd om de stad Homún te bereiken is 1 uur onderweg, hier bevinden zich deze fascinerende cenotes.
We maken de tweede stop bij de cenote van de Pool Uinic-grot, waar je 1 uur en 15 minuten de tijd hebt om de cenote binnen te gaan en te zwemmen.
De eerste stop is in het Santa Rosa-park waar 2 cenotes zijn, een genaamd Yum Kimil van het open type en een andere met de naam Santa Rosa van het grottype. Je hebt 2 uur de tijd om de cenotes te betreden en te zwemmen.
We komen terecht in de laatste cenote, een grot genaamd San Antonio, hier heb je een uur en 15 minuten om naar binnen te gaan en te zwemmen. Nadat we klaar zijn met eten, gaan we naar het restaurant op dezelfde plek waar je kunt genieten van een heerlijk typisch gerecht (er zijn vegetarische opties).
We eindigen deze tour op hetzelfde ontmoetingspunt waar we je 's ochtends hebben opgehaald, beginnend bij het laatste, het Fiesta Americana hotel, en eindigend bij het Viajes Colibrí-kantoor. De reistijd terug naar Mérida bedraagt 1 uur vanaf Homún.

Mauricio and Jorge gave us such a stress-free and fun experience! Mauricio was so kind and made sure we enjoyed our time while also relaxing with no worries. He was so knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of cenotes. The transportation was clean and smooth. I highly recommend this tour for anyone! My friend and I are two female travelers and we felt very safe and taken care of the entire experience. The cenotes we went to were also very beautiful and the food was great, there were options to relax on a couple of the properties we visited when we weren’t swimming in the cenotes which was very nice. 10000/10 experience, thank you Jorge and Mauricio for treating us as family!

We booked two private tours with Viajes Colibrí Yucatán and we had Mauricio as our guide both days. I’ll say it plainly: he is the reason this trip was as special as it was. We chose to pay extra for private tours and it was absolutely worth every peso. Booking & Office Experience We planned ahead and booked both private tours nearly two months in advance — easy to do, and it gave us total peace of mind. The office team was professional, polite, and a pleasure to work with from start to finish. All coordination happened seamlessly over WhatsApp, and we were able to pay a deposit via PayPal in advance so we didn’t need to scramble for cash. For travelers coming from the US, that kind of frictionless booking process matters a lot. Tours are offered in both English and Spanish — ours were conducted in English, and Mauricio was completely fluent and natural throughout. Day 1 — Tour Privado 4 Cenotes Plus (Homún) We left Mérida early and arrived at the Santa Rosa park ahead of the crowds — we were the only ones at the first cenote, which felt like having it to ourselves. Mauricio helped us get photos, kept the energy high, and his enthusiasm was contagious from the start. But what really set him apart was his depth of knowledge. He walked us through the geology of how cenotes form, their sacred role in Mayan culture and religion, and the history of the Homún region. What made the tour so well-designed was the variety across all four stops: Yuum Kimil (open-air), Santa Rosa (cavern), Pool Uinic (crystal-clear and blissfully quiet), and San Antonio (serene, family-run, untouched). The first cenotes are managed by established operations; the later ones are smaller family businesses with a rawer natural beauty. That progression felt intentional and made for a richer, more layered day. Throughout both days we crossed paths with other Viajes Colibrí group tours running simultaneously — and every single staff member we encountered, across every group, was warm, polished, and professional. It’s clear this company runs a well-oiled operation. Their group tours looked fantastic too, and if you’re traveling solo or want a more social experience, those are clearly in great hands as well. Day 2 — Tour Privado Chichén Itzá Premium → Ek Balam, Cenote Ik Kil & Izamal Chichén Itzá was unexpectedly closed by the government on our tour day — completely outside anyone’s control. What impressed us was how Viajes Colibrí handled it: they reached out proactively via WhatsApp with multiple options, including a full reschedule or refund. We chose to switch the archaeological site to Ek Balam and we are so glad we did. The pyramid is stunning — and unlike Chichén Itzá, you can actually climb it. Mauricio came fully prepared with an iPad loaded with maps, hieroglyphic references, and historical images. He taught us about Mayan ball game rituals, the carvings, and the site’s history in a way that felt like having a private professor. He even climbed up to help us get a group photo from the top. From there we swam in the legendary Cenote Ik Kil — the open-air sacred cenote with vines cascading down the walls that you’ve seen in every travel magazine. Absolutely breathtaking. Then a fantastic buffet lunch at Restaurante Xaybe’h before finishing the day in Izamal. Mauricio shared the history of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos program and the story behind why every building is painted yellow and white — tracing back to Pope John Paul II’s historic 1993 visit. The plaza, the convent, and the pyramid of Kinich Kakmó are all gorgeous. I could have stayed all day. Bottom line: Book the private tour — it’s worth the upgrade. Ask for Mauricio by name. The office is easy to work with, WhatsApp coordination is smooth, PayPal payment means no cash headaches, and you can book months ahead with confidence. If anything unexpected happens, they handle it with professionalism and genuine care. Couldn’t recommend them more highly.

The vehicle and transfer were excellent. The cenotes were good; there is plenty of time to enjoy each one, where there are opportunities for convenience and pleasant conversation. The service was friendly and attentive at all times. There is no doubt we will go with them again for the next tour.
